Anti-Theft Device

What the hell...I never even realized my 99 SE actually had a "real" anti-theft device until tonight. After working on several things with the battery disconnected, I reconnect it and a few minutes later, I open the driver side door, and it started going off! I had no clue how to disable it, so I had to disconnect the battery. Keep in mind, I live in a neighborhood full of senior citizens, and this was at 11pm.

Is there any way to permanently disable the device? If not, what do I do to temporarily disable it once it goes off? I was thinking of just pulling the fuse for the horn, but the lights will still flash and be a pain in my @$$. Any suggestions?

use your keyless entry remote (if your car came with one) to unlock the door... and if your car didn't come with one and the alarm goes off, close the drivers side door, take your key and turn the key, it should shut the alarm off.

Thanks for the help guys...got it fixed I think.

Any idea as to what exactly will set the device off? I have had the car for a year, and never had it go off on me until now.

Also, is there a way to permanently deactivate it? I will be adding an aftermarket alarm within the next 2 weeks, and don't want this to be active as well. Thanks again!

if you have it professionally installed, they'll disable the factory alarm.

not all maximas came with a factory alarm, do you have a security light on the left side of the dash? If you do have it, the way to activate it is to close the door, and lock it from the outside and it'll automatically set... if you have a "cherp" sound, there may already be an aftermarket alarm on there? When I had the stock alarm on my car it never made any "cherp" noise

I plan on installing the alarm myself...Not too interested in paying for something I can do myself. Do you suppose Nissan would tell me how if I called? I'm assuming I can't find out online because there are people who would use the information for the wrong purposes, but I figure that it's may car, and I should be able to do what I want with it.

Any ideas???

I'd like to know how to disconnect or disable the alarm.

I'd also like to know exactly what all will cause the alarm to go off. As I said before, it's never done it before. I removed the dash panels and crap to paint them (the battery was connected at the time), then a few hours later, I put the pieces back and and reconnected the harnesses and stuff. All was fine...I went inside to grab the last piece, and when I came out and opened the driver's side door, it went off.

There is a little black module under the stereo in front of the shifter. It has two patch cables going in to it. To disable the alarm, unplug the connectors to that unit.
