what size gas tanks come in these cars?

 

It's officially listed as 18 gallons, but I've never put in more than 16.5

 

how come no more than 16.5?

 

Because that's all that would fit.

same here... even after driving for about 20 miles with the gas light on...

 

My 97 GXE has the light come on at about 15 1/4 which is when the needle hits the E mark. When the needle is almost below the letter E, I will be doing around 18 gallons. The most I have ever put in is 18 1/4 one time when I was on vacation.

 

i read somewhere that that gas light comes on when there is 2.5 gallons of gas in the tank. I was driving one night in the Pocono mountains when the gas light came on and there were no gas stations till I drove like 45 miles to find one. I filled in 17.5 gallons then

I was too scared coz I wasn't sure if AAA would come to rescue if I run out of gas. It was a mistake that I see the gas needle when I was near Scranton area ...

 

I was always under the impression it was a total of 18 gallons, 15 up until E and a 3 gallon reserve.

 

One day I put 17.7 gal.

(note: i'm the guy getting 18mpg for some f'ed up reason!!! i have no idea why, if anyone has any ideas, please share! ive done pretty much everything and i dont know what to do now)

yea it says 18.5 in the nissan manual i dont think i've ever put more than 16.5 in either

 

I've pumped in 17.27 gallons before...... I was STRUGGLING to find a Shell station! I only remember that because prior to that incident it had never taken more than 16.00gal and I was amazed at how close I came to the bottom of the tank.
