Just Found Out My Od Function Does Not Work, Light Does Not Come On!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

the bulb is fine, the holder is fine. i believe it could be the wires inside the shifter cause the od off light kinda flickered whenever i touched the shifter and sometimes it even went off. i decided to try to see the od wires by removing the shifter but got nowhere. now the light doesn't come on.

when i start in 1st gear(its an auto) and shift to second and then to drive with the OD off, the rpm drops. isn't it not sopose to do this w/ the od off?

The same thing happened to my shifter (X2). Both times I broke the shifter myself. The 1st time I broke it by reaching over to get something from under the passenger's seat, the next time I pushed a Box in there too hard. The first time I bought one from the junkyard for $15 dollars. The next time I could not find any good ones at the yards so I bought it from the dealer for $60 bucks . Now I am alot more careful about putting undue stress on the shifter . I actually want to go back to the junkyards to check for a leather one for a good price.

Oh lord. Here's what you do, get up to around 40 or 50 mph, push in the OD button and see if the RPM drops or rise. If they do either, it's fine.

If your OD wires are indeed broken, like mine were inside the shifter, you will need a new shifter. You do not need to replace the whole shifter mechanism, just the shifter itself. There are two wires that come out of the shifter **** from the bottom. I cut these wires close to the junction with the broken shifter, that way I would have some slack to be able to crimp the new shifter wires with the ones coming from the shifter mechanism. I did not want to dissasemble the whole shifter mechanism so that is why I did it this way. It was a quick and easy fix, both times .

If you buy the shifter new it will have the wires hanging from the bottom, along with the connector that goes to the one that is on the bottom of the shifter mechanism. I just cut this connector off and crimped them to the existing wire because I did not want to take everything apart, and besides I had already done it this way with the 1st shifter I bought from the junkyard and had no problems with it.
