front passenger Seat bolts stripped bad.

Well the thing is i dropped my car off at my brothers house for him to hook up my system and put my amps under the passenger side seat.(Im not good at that stuff) When i got back from school, apparently, he stripped out 3 of the 4 bolts and even the part that attatched to the frame trying to get a good ground. NOw the seat isnt even secured at all. Well only 1 bolt is holding the seat down, the other 3 are just sitting in the holes. I was like WTF. SO now i was wondering if any1 else ever had this problem and if so how much would i be looking at to have this rethreaded. DO i just take it to the dealer? Im totally lost. Any help would be appreciated.

A bolt can be replaced. Go to home depot and tell the sales person what you need. They set you up with the right (power) tools. Bring a bolt sample.

You should get the bolts out and just get new bolts.

try to find a socket that fits the stripped heads very sung and hammer it on. Then use an airgun (high torque) and get them out. Sounds ghetto but it will work. Maybe buy a single socket from sears to do the job so you dont ruin one out of a set you might own already. Once they are all out either go to Nissan or HomeDepot (prefrebly Nissan) and order up new bolts. You might also wanna consider a "tap and dye" set to re-thread the part attached to the body.

goodluck,

Ant

So are the threads in the holes stripped or the heads on the bolts?

I did it to my passanger seat. Stripped out the bolts and the threads in the floor. I just cleaned up the bolt threads as much as possible, used a bunch of washers and cranked the bolts down as much as I could. Worked for me and the seat is not moving...but that is not a solution to use if you plan to remove your seat ever again.

If the head of the bolt is stripped really bad, you can take a vise grip and clamp it as hard as you can and tap it with a hammer to loosen/remove the bolts.

Its the threads to the floor/holes that are stripped. Of course the bolts are too but im not worried about that. Thats easy to fix. Its the stripped floor holes that im worried about.

You should be able to either do the helicoils or just get a tap and die set and rethread the holes either option is going to result in a different size bolt being used so just make sure the bolt fits through the mounting hole on the seat. Or you could simply just enlarge that hole as well. Really shouldnt be a difficult fix.

Might try welding in bolts frum the bottom. us a nut up top. Also makes aligning the seat a little easier next time you take it out.
