Anybody fail emissions test without an EGR/ a faulty EGR system?

I am wondering if you would fail an emissions test without the EGR system hooked up? Can anyone verify this? Or does anyone have a personal experience they would like to share? Any help is greatly appreciated.

Thanks,

-Nick

I failed my emission test as soon as I bought my car. Since I'm only a student and don't have much knowledge what EGR system is, but the problem in my car was the black box under the car not too far away from muffler which was supposedly somehow overfilled with gas or something.

are you thinking about getting the 00vi and want to be lazy and not do the EGR setup? idk if it plays a huge part but my 95 failed and it has a clogged EGR and its malfunctioning and whatnot...bad O2 sensors (2) and some other EGR thing. idk what it was specifically, and besides the cat being clogged it still failed ... and if you are going the 00vi route that sucks you wasted SOOOOOOOOO much time on that stock mani makin it shiney

Yeah I might go to a 2000 Maxima motor w/ VI. I will then sell my polished/chrome parts.

Yeah whole motor.. I am gonna race this one a little more and then retire it and step up to a little more N/A power(2000 VQ).

Vysamalov (or something like that) did it before he went to the 3.5. He didn't have the VI on for some reason though. Why not just put on the VI?

My motor has 134,000 on it and I am thinking about retiring it soon due to wanting to build up the new motor.. I dont want to build a 134,000 mile motors, thats my reason for this.
