I have 0104 code right now and have for a while. You just need to replace the sensor when this code shows up. The speed sensor is located *on top* of the transmission transaxle, if you're using Haynes, the picture doesn't help much cuz you have no sense of what you're looking at or where you're looking.
If you take your intake off (note: don't take intake MANIFOLD off, that would be a beatch...) up to the throttle body, then look down and look/feel around the top of the transaxle, you should see the top of it, it's back there a little bit.
They're not too expensive, about $30 from the stealership.

I get 0104 once in a while. The 0104 is caused when the speed sensor tells the ECU your speed is at 0mph even though you're moving. If I'm not mistaken, the connector on the right of the front O2 sensor connector located in front of the engine behind the radiator, is the vehicle speed sensor. Just follow the bottom part of the connector to the transmission case, I'm not sure if SLACK is showing the same part but it doesn't seem like it. Both the connector and cable, and the sensor itself are the same on the manual and auto maxima. If you follow the cable it will end up on the side of the transfacing the driver's side wheel. It's a $20-$30 part and a very easy DIY job. Make sure to raise the car on the driver's side as some trans fluid may come out
