E-brake light stays on

Okay like I this car couldnt have anymore problems with it. This morning while starting up my car to go to work, I released the e-brake and noticed the damn light stayed on. Drove 8 miles to work and it was on the whole way there. Turned the car off and back on still there. Does anyone know what the problem could be? I was thinking about disconnecting the battery this weekend for a bit, maybe the sensor got stuck or something. Any Ideas?

I would check the sensor, which is located on the lower part of the ebrake.. You could try disconnecting the battery also.. If you cant resolve the issue and you just want to get rid of the light you could remove the bulb for the ebrake light, but I would definately look at the ebrake sensor..

Okay this may be dumb thing to say, but last week I had my oil changed at wal-mart where I always go and I have them do the full service. Which there suppose to check all your fluids. Wouldnt they have told me, my brake fluid is low. The paper didnt say it.

Well I really hope its my fluid but I have a feeling the way my car has been it will be something more complexed. I have had a damn check engine light stay on for almost 2 years now! The evap code 0903..Had a whole new evap system put in by nissan and it didnt fix it, had 3 other dealers try and fix it. It's still on...So I'm putting money on my own car it wont be that easy of a fix LOL!

It might be low fluid.
OR the battery light will come on soon with the brake light which indicates a problem with the alternator. That is what happened to me.
You better hope that battery light doesn't light up.

You know it is so funny you say that! Last summer on 3 diffrent occasions as I was driving at a really low speed like 30mph or less my car would just die. All the lights on the dash board would light up. I would have to put my car in park and turn the ignition off then it would start right back up. Someone then told me it was the altenator going bad, because it was having voltage surges and thats why my car did that. Then like late last month I noticed my lights to the heat/air buttons were flickering and right after that my back tail lights were not working. Come to find out something blew the fuse and both back lights. Then after this(remind you this is all like last month and this month, except the car dying while driving)my starter and battery at the same time went bad. Then my car wasnt staying started in cold morning unless I reved the engine a few times. Took it to nissan, they couldnt find anything wrong with my alternator. But said I had a bad crank sensor. I had that replaced. Car hasnt given me any problems starting up in the morning now. But what can explain the blown fuse, bad battery and starter at same time. And those 3 times last summer where the car died while driving? My boyfriend keeps telling me its proably your altenator, but I dont want to buy a new one and it be something else you know.

When the car dies all the lights come on. That's normal.
If the alternator goes out you will not be driving long. I think that your brake light is probably related to your brakes. I just mentioned the battery light because that is what happened to me. I had the brake light for about a week then the battery light came on with it. Within two hours the stereo was shutting off, windows wouldn't roll down, car stalled. It was the alternator. I would get your brakes inspected if that battery light doesn't come on soon.

Yeah, the same thing happened to me with the brake lights. I needed new brakes.

btw, I don't know if you remember, I had the same issue with the car stalling at start up. I have to rev the engine a few times for it to stay started. Which crank sensor did Nissan replace to remedy the problem?

But can brakes go out in almost 3 years? Because I bought this car july of 2002 and like a month after I got it, the brakes started making the sqweeling noise. I took it to sears and they replaced the brake pads. So is it possible that they are ready for replacement?

They replace the crank sensor I think next to the cam shaft? I think thats what they said. Which ones are they? If you tell me, maybe I can remember the name.

Yes, brakes can go out in a couple of years, depends on driving habits/environment. When I lived in NYC, I had to replace brakes almost every other year due to stop and go traffic.

crank sensor (pos) or
crank sensor (ref) ?

Did you give the fluid a check? it has a min-max line on the resovior so you should be able to tell if thats the problem

No I havent checked the fluid yet, I'll do that after I get off work today. Now is the brake fluid like the oil fluid? You have a dipstick for it? Or is it that one container kinda above the engine? I know which ones are my antifreeze and windshield fluid. I know dumb question. But I'm a girl, I know somethings about my car but not like you guys do =o)

No, you'll see the brake fluid level, it has a line to tell you its low. You dont even have to take the top off to see it... if its low, you need new brake pads... the fluid has to go down to compensate for the brake pad loss.

And yes, 3 years is WAYYY more than enough time to replace brakes, I've done mine about every 6 months here in the city.

just to let you know its not always the pads, it can be lines, master cylinder, or in my case rear calipers
