Power Windows, Doorlock Problems

The power windows and door locks on my '95 GXE recently quit working. After checking fuses I took it to a repair shop. They say it is a computer module that needs replacing. Cost for the part is $1000+. WOW! Anyone had this problem? I would appreciate your comments.

im new and dont know a ton but i think u should know for sure before you spend that. they might just be selling u somehtin. maybe you can find a used one for tons less or maybe its an electrical issue and ur module is only at the end of the problem. like i said i duno much
also if the windows and locks went at the same time i wud guess that it was something they had in common that went wrong, like they both go thru the computer right?

What is wrong with your power locks exactly? Mine always lock but the passenger's side door doesn't unlock and seems to be causing some issues, it seems like it's keeping the others from being unlocked as well. I have to force it open and almost break the lock to get it unlocked.

rosamax, if your passenger door lock is sticking, it will prevent the rest of the doors from unlocking. I had that problem a while back. I would unlock the doors, then they would lock again. What was happening was that the passenger door lock would stick partway and not allow the other doors to remain unlocked.

Simple fix: remove the door panel on the inside and regrease the sliding bar that runs from the actual lock to the switch. Just get in there with the door panel off, take a look around, and see what is causing the lock to stick. It is most likely catching on something or the motor would be worn out. It is really not too hard to tell.

alexand46: Check the fuses again. Get a hold of a wiring diagram (search this site; they are not hard to find) and check where the wires run. Test the fuses that are most likely to be causing the problem. A bad computer module seems unlikely to be causing the problem.
