clutch depends a TON on what you are looking to do with your max - lots of guys are using the 4th gen disk and pressure plate from the 5th gen for a nice stock setup - then there's boosted applications too. Redline synthetic gear oil is the best - especially since you are in CT with the cold winters non-synthetic will feel like sludge.

I have an ACT, it grabs real hard and the pedal is really really stiff. I like the feeling of it, but I guess it would depend on how you like it. People say the ACT chews trannys but I don't believe it, its only how you drive.

i would just stay stock..if you are not putting out alot more pwoer than stock you do not need anything eles. Driveablility on the "performance" clutches sucks compared. I mean it is bareable but not as comfortable. I had an ACT but went back to stock and i like the stock clutch much better.

Definatly get the ACT Stage one clutch, i got that on mine and i could not have been more satisfied with the performance of the clutch. Normal driving is very smooth, but if you want to get at it, it will handle anything you throw at it, and it barks 3rd sometimes 4th gear

Unorthodox Stage 2, 6puck ceramic, unsprung hub. The clutch pedal is featherlight, even lighter than stock. I swear! You wont be disapointed.

Now I have been through hundreds of clutch posts before making my final decision but I've only heard two people having a bad experience with the key value clutch. Are they really that bad and what makes them worse than every other clutch ever built. I all I read is . I wondering if the two bad experiences I read about might have been because of a bad break in period or non resurfaced or replaced flywheel.

Those are certainly valid points as they affecto performance a great deal. However, just the fact that Nissan sells these discount kits, along side OEM parts, should tell you that they are NOT up to OEM performance. Still, a mechanic once said he put several of these in and did not have the customers come back to complain. I think some just daily drive and never go WOT so will never reach the limits of the Key Value kit. It should be noted that labor is a large chunk so it's not worth saving a few buck to gamble on the Key Value.

Key Value Sucks. I have personal experience and I KNOW how to install/break them in. If you want to use them, don't say I didn't warn you.

how come no one talk about spec here?

dude, spec rocks!!!
i got spec stage 2, it's got very soft and nice engagement and doubled featherlight pedal feel. first time driving it after installation, i couldn't even do my 1st gear right. it engages right after you let off the clutch pedal.

plus, my tiny girlfriend didn't like the hard clutch feel, so changing it to spec 2 wins both sides of the table

i combo-ed the spec stage 2 with the stillen 5lb flywheel. it revs much faster than stock, and the gear range increased. i can go pretty smooth from 15mph-up with 4th gear. with stock flywheel, it had to rattle out to catch it.

I just order 5th Gen Clutch cover and the rest 4th Gen parts, each dealership I talked tried to sell me a Key Value. I think I have a Key Value on the car now. In a year of ownership I have only spun the tires a couple of times. (alothough I have tried) The good thing is the weak clutch was more forgiving with the tranny I am sure if I had a strong clutch I would have chirped the tires a few hundred times by now. I have had Centerforce Dual Friction never slipped but I was not happy with it. If guys have gone to the track 120+ times and have not had the stock clutch slip I feel good about stock.

I've been running exedy stage 1 for 20K now w/no problems, from Clutchmasters CA. Ebay around 125$ shipped w/unorthodox udp & aasco motorsports 5lb. flywheel talk about fast reving & low end tq improvment. I'm also using redline mt-90 in my trans & that is the fluid I would recommend, i live in slc ut and the winters are pretty cold, this fluid makes shifting alot smoother when vehicle is cold.

Comming from the original clutch it feels much better. Since the old one was worn out the new one has much better response. Its not spongy and fells pretty linear (no harsh engage ment). It will probably last a bit longer than the original. Its really a good replacement overall. Cant go wrong, thats for sure.
