try it after the engine is warm. it might help. or you can buy oil filter wrench or something like that. they are sold at all autpart stores and they are made for oil filters.
btw i think the oil filter UNSCREWS clock wise. IIRC its different than all the other screws. im not sure tho so correct me if im wrong

If you take your pass side wheel off, you should be able to get in there and have better access to the oil filter. I would get a filter wrench, and go to town on it. The screwdriver works sometimes, but its a major gamble because if you cant get the filter off after you stab it, you cant operate the vehicle until the filter is replaced.

I never liked going all the way through with a screwdriver from fear of damaging the threads. What I've done when in this situation, is take a screwdriver and a hammer and tap it off; don't aim the screwdriver perpendicular to the filter, but on an angle that will make it rotate counter-clockwise...tap a few times with the hammer, and it should work it's way loose.
Hmm...that was harder to describe than I thought it would be.

I do my own oil changes--why is there any question as to whether it unscrews counter-clockwise or not? I'm puzzled.
I think the best idea was to take it back to the people who did it. When you say wrong filter, I hope you feel that way just because of the size of the filter, not the fact that the threads did not match. Nissan has a tiny filter--I think two of them fit in my hand. That doesn't mean that an aftermarket has to be that small. If anything I'd think it costs more to mfg. it that small while having the same filtering capacity.
I've been able to take off the filter with Channel Locks very easily, and if there is any resistance I grab it harder and the filter ends up being dented. The pliers have plenty of bite which I don't use unless necessary. If you think that you are putting excessive force on it and it's not budging, I'd seriously suggest you leave it and have the jokers who installed it, remove it. There's a reason they say to hand tighten only. Good luck.

My filter wouldn't comeout on my last oil change so prayed some PB, let it sit for 15 min, sprayed some more, waited another 15 min and playing around w/ my filter, it came off.

no no no. you guys all wrong what you do is you are gonna need teh jesus wrench it is gonna cost you it has a metal handel and a metal chain attached to it that tightens around oil filters, it as an oil filter wrench it will take anything off you need to look around my dad got ours along time ago it was sold by snapon for 60 bucks or so. that is why you probbaly cant get it off becuase some aholes tighten it on there with that wrench and screwed you becuase your only supppose to tighten it with your hand not a wrench being it is under vacume pressure.

same thing happened to me before, couldnt get the filter off for the life in me. Posted on here got the same suggestions. Stabbed the filter still wouldnt come off.
Then I got frustrated, cleaned off the oily filter and my hands, and stabed with screw driver again and turned with the furry of the GODS and it finally stated to move, then used my hands the rest of the way. Last time I let the dealer change my oil.
glad it got off, frustrating wasnt it!

Great! Glad you got it off. Now you'll be able to DIY from here on. The filter you have in your pic looks rather stubby, and maybe wider than the OEM. I always use OEM because I'm sure it will provide protection at least as good as what the car came with. Plus I get them 25% off list, which went up since last time......

I thought there weren't too many threads out there. I know my Previa filter fits on my car, but the filter is huge. There are others saying toyota filters fits certain nissans. My volvo filter didn't fit my maxima, but after 1/2 turn it was obvious. I dunno how they coulda messed up your filter.
I'm glad you got it off. I always have my 18" channel lock w/me when I do my oil change. Usually I wear my grippy gloves and twist like a ****. Oh yeah, I take my wheel and plastic cover off too. PITA

njmaxseltd knows exactly what he's talking about - it is under pressure - hence why it flows. There is a pump that pushes the oil - that's how it flows.

for this EXACT reason, is why i went outside int he 32 degree weather, had snow on my back and changed my own oil and filter (also because i use synthetic so its less costly to do yourself).
i ran into a problem once with my dad's altima, he went to walmart and got it chagned and used a fram filter, the fram duragrip garbage has this black coating on the top and no filter wrench can get a grip on it. i wound up stabbign throguh the top of the filter so i idndt hit the threads. you gotta go all the way through othewrise itll rip it to pieces.

dude it sounds like YOU need to take physics 101 - for the last time, its not ****ing vacuum, its pressure.... hence terms like... oil pressure sending unit..... if you don't believe me, try this, while you're car is running - go ahead and unbolt the oil pressure sending unit. Since you are OBVIOOUSLY right on this, there shouldnt be any oil coming out of there since it's under vacuum - then come back and post and tell me how it goes.
