well last night i was parked in the parking lot at my apartment complex.....i always park at the last spot so i can avoid door dings from one side of my car.....today as i walked outside of my car i realized the car that was parked to the left of me was so close to my car that i could barely squeeze my body inside the car after i opened my door....
later on that day i was filling up gas and i noticed a HUGE scratch/scrape on my bumper and also part of my taillight.....someone must have hit my car and scratched it with their car.....
i was wondering if i found out which car hit me, would i be able to file a claim and charge the person who hit my car?

you could try, but unless there is really hard evidence, i doubt you'll get much from it. same thing happened to me, so good luck
luckily the bumper wasnt dented in or crACked but the scratch is VERY VERY noticable...about the size of a palm!
You can file a report with the police, but unless you are in a really small town where there is no crime, they more than likely won't pursue anything more than just the report. if someone else would have witnessed it, that would be a different story, but if not, you are pretty much on your own.

If you have no plate of the offender, you have nothing. Not to mention police won't give you a report unless it's on the spot... too late now.
If you have full cover insurance though, they will cover it without it affecting your rates since the car was parked and unoccupied when it was hit, you are at ZERO fault.
If you have liability only, well then I'd get my wallet ready.

if i am able to find out the license plate of the car who hit me do i have a chance to fight for it?

By getting this license plate, can you place that culprit the scene? You have anyone who witnessed this accident? Was there any REAL damage to the car besides scratches and paint transfer? As in anything severely broken? All questions you will be asked when you file the report with your local Police. So make sure you have answers if you are deciding on filing a report.
If you have a culprit, talk to them personally first and see what they have to say.

Definitely need to have a witness for the accusation & charge to hold up in any sector of the law. Do you know this person or have you seen their car before? If so, maybe approach them. That's really all that you can do in this case without hard evidence. Good luck w/ this.

even if you have full coverage, you probably have to pay a deductable which is usually $500 or more. this means if you go to a body shop to repair your damages and it cost $600 then the insurance company will only pay $100.
