CF Hood (big pic.. didn't want to post it)

I'd rather have the other style hoodpins, but the pop rivets that come with them are beyond my intelligence to get working .. and the guy who had the hood before me had already drilled holes into this one for this type of hoodpin. I'm planning on getting one new hopefully in the spring and installing it correctly and getting better pins / windshield washers somehow..

Without hood pins. Too scary on the highway to see my hood dance.

With hood pins. Morso aluminum hood pins. Chrome plated steel ones tend to rust after the chrome chips off. Aluminum ones aren't as bling bling but they won't rust.

You can get morso hood pins from Summit Racing. They are like $10 I think.

I'm thinking of going the same route because since I bought my car (used), the hood had been somewhat bent (photos below). I tried to adjust the hood thru the hood latch to bring it down more to eliminate the gaps. But when I do that, the hood wouldn't open properly.

If I do go CF, that means I have to add more CF accentuation on the exterior of the car which I'm not too excited about because real CF is pricey. Is there maybe a fiberglass hood that I can get? I'm just not sure if paint matching will be a PITA.

The locking pins will not work with the shape of our hood.

Heres mine...

I have Moroso sliding pins.

Their not too bad, the same as any others.

Your refering to these locking type right?

Id REALLY like to see how he got the locking ones to work. Myself and others have tried. They require the mounting surface to be perfeclty flat and lined up with each other. Our hoods have a downward slope which throws the setup at an angle.
The way they work is a T type of locking system. If the T post isnt able to fit in the cutout exacty it wont lock.

I already hate taking off the hair pins to pop the hood. I would kill myself if I have to deal with the locking type.

to ask the stupid question... how did you secure them?.. the push-pin crap things that come with them didn't hold them onto mine, and I didn't want to cut away enough frame underneath to get nuts on a bolt to hold them in... so I dunno...

I would think the locking type would be easier.. the hair pin ones (mine at least) are a pain in the *** because you have to be careful not to scratch them across the hood when taking them out.. locking ones at least would just pop off with a key of some sort..

is there anyone who has a colored CF hood.

to use an example, i saw a dark blue rsx which had a dark blue and black CF weave patern and it was hot as hell, may sound ricey but i liked it alot. i would like to get a dark green and black weave to go with my black emerald paint. anyone can custom make it, i mean its just he waeve, it doesnt require anymore special work does it?

I wanted to do that. They basically spray it with a pearl clearcoat. But I don't think there is a silver pearl color that can match the Sterling mist. I seen red pearl, blue pearl...etc.

No, they use a colored kevlar.
Ive been seeing more and more colored carbon options being made available.
Im sure, its going to cost more for a colored item, but I agree it woud look sweet!
Here is a site that offers colored options and they do ake a hood for maxima's....

The scratch plate is big enough so you don't have to be perfect. Anyway, the hole on the underneath part needs to be oval shape. The hole on the CF will need to be a tad bigger than the hole on the scratch plate. I used a Dremel with a sanding drum for the fiberglass part and unibit for the CF layer part. Dremeling fiberglass is like hot knife on butter. You might want to put some masking tape to prevent the gel coat on the CF gel layer chipping before you drill into it from the top. You could drill the CF gel layer from the bottom but you will chip the gel coat on the CF for sure. Even if you do that, the scratch plate will cover it as long as the chip is not a huge one.

When I get a CF hood I plan on getting key locking pins. That way I can get rid of the OEM latch and cable to save weight and clean things up.
