Everyone with a CF hood...POST PICS.
The latch and the cables are that heavy??? I'd say the latch is about 1lb, cables another lb or two.
My sister's puppy is heavier than that!

When you get the locking hoodpins, post pic of them installed. Id like to see how you get them to fit.
Thats the route I wanted to go with but couldnt get them to line up to lock.

Small open end wrench. I think like 10mm or smaller. You will see it at the base of the support. It helps to have 2 or more people helping. The hood support could extend out and scratch your paint if you are not careful.

I know what your project is. I was joshing you! Now if you can manage to sit in your car and not add an ounce of additional body weight in it, then that's one hell of an accomplishment.

Please god link those pics. They done fxcked this thread up. Your car looks fantastic Shadow. I'm interested having some similar paint work done on my trunklid. How do they get a clean line at the edge of the letter like that? Every time I've seen it done like that it needs a pinstripe to hide where the paint crept under the tape.
Shadow, those cars are awesome. Question, is the hood on the integra cf? So does it mean that you can paint over a CF hood? This whole concept is pretty new to me and the only reason why I'm considering CF hoods is because the hood that's on my car is all messed up and I wanted to get a nicer hood so I figured why not get a CF hood and at the same time reduce some weight from the car. Is the process the same when painting a CF hood? Thanks.

They normally just put down vinyl and shoot on top of it.
I agree, Shadows car is nice!
So would it give off the same look as when you paint fiberglass? Which in that case, the paint matching is a little off because of how glass looks painted versus metal.

The lines were taped, the letters were paint mask vinyl. I just cut the logos out at my shop and my friend who runs a body shop took care of the rest. I'm not sure why it would bleed through the tape unless it was done wrong.

The hoods on both cars are CF. And both are painted, it's just harder to tell on mine because the color is darker. No reason you can't paint CF.

The vinyl is just a mask, it's peeled before they spray clear, like a stencil.
Why would fiberglass look different than metal painted? Both the cars have fiberglass bumpers and the paint matching is perfect. On the Integra, the kit is even molded in sides and back along with the wing, no shade variation at all.

I was just wondering because my buddy builds pre-runner (offroad) trucks and they use fiberglass fenders. His is white and the white fenders just don't match up right. I figured it would be the same for cars.
Again, excuse my ignorance here, but the CF is just a layer that's ontop, the hood is entirely made out of fiberglass right? If that is the case, I can probably have someone that makes a CF hood, just make me a plain fiberglass hood and I'll take it to the body shop for painting.

If everything is primed and sprayed properly, it should match.
As for the CF hoods, they vary between all CF and 1 layer of CF on top of fiberglass (cheaper hoods). On my Fiber Images Hood, it's all CF with a fiberglass frame. On the wife's, it's a double sided hood (CF on the underside too) which is a few layers of carbon sandwiched on fiberglass.

Ok...obviously, I'm trying to save myself some money and I really don't want CF showing because it would just throw off everything else in my nearly stock exterior. With that, I'd be waisting money on a hood with any kind of CF treatment since it's only going to be covered up in paint. So in my situation, what would you recommend?

Why not buy a carbonfiber hood and just paint it, it would be no different than making one out of fiberglass. a fiberglass or carbonfiber is about the same price

Only the really sh!tty ones have the carbon just laid over the glass. My trunk is a glass frame with carbon exterior surface. I can see intense and direct light through the bottom of mine. This isn't necessarily a good thing but it proves that its not an overlay.
