Why does our paint chip so easily? just makes me aggravated. i was thinking of spot painting with spraypaint & clearcoat. I really like how my grill came out. Anyone think of anything going wrong? of course i'll sand it down to 1500, but wondering if anyone ghetto-painted their car.

 

could be possible, many complain about the bad paint job but I think it depends on your environment, down here its warm most of the time and rain every now and then, my paint hasnt seen (that I know of ) snow or salty roads so that could have taken away from the life of your paint.

what part of the car are you going to repaint? might be a better idea to sand down the whole part and repair it all rather than a specific spot and have that one spot looking new and shinny and then the rest kinda dull.

well i live in nj. the 2nd worst roads and conditions, next to nyc. so my maxi goes through a lot. but these chips are like 2mm x 2mm. not something I wanna work the whole door on.

 

How big are these chips? Chances are using touchup paint will yield the best results short of repainting the entire panel at a bodyshop. I find that dark colors tend to blend fairly well.

 

I did the touch up paint route. MY hood had rock chips all over it. My paint, its from 95 though, is very brittel.

 

I have the same problem all over the hood; the paint in our cars is extremelly low quality; besides I drive 100 miles a day 70-90 mph parkways and highways; so my hood has dozens of small chips; I had a 89 Accord and with way less paint chips. May have to touch them up and eventually repaint hood and front bumper, and only 5 years old.

 

I just sucked up the $900 and had the whole front end re-painted to remove all the rock chips. You guys might want to consider the 3-M front protector clear plastic they put on cars nowdays to keep rock chips to a minimum. I think it's around 300 for the front end but it's worth it.
