Upper Strut Bearing replacement

Upper Strut Bearing replacement
For months and month my car has been making the "click-click-click" when I turn the steering wheel, indicative of the strut bearings. So, I've decided its time to replace them.
In order to do so, I need a strut compressor. They are $50 at Pep Boys here in Atlanta. Anyone know if I can just rent them anywhere?
Also, Pep Boys quoted me $15.99 for a "strut boot kit." Is that what I'm looking for? I don't see how a "boot kit" could be confused for a single bearing, but the price he quoted sounded about right for the part I'm after.
ANy suggestions?
Thanks
Mike

is it a soft pop or a click, if its a hard clicking its problaby the cv joints, if its soft then its probalby strut bearings that need to be regreased.
autozone carries SPRING compressors if thats what your looking for. they rent them for free, harborfreight.com also has them cheap if you want to buy them. i dont think the boot kit if what your looking for, check jerryrome nissan for the part.

I should have mentioned...
Had my CV joints replaced about 2 months ago as they were BEYOND shot.
Its not the CV joints. I can see the spring sticking as the wheel is turned, and the clicking I hear mathes with the spring sticking. Its definitely the upper bearings. The CV joints made a different noise which is gone now.
Thanks for the help so far.

ok, well the bearings will have to be bought from a dealership.....the boot kit is not what you are looking for
spring compressors can be found at autozone and rented for free
i think i have the same problem with my strut mount/bearings....does this clicking happen only after your car has been sitting for a little while and turn the wheel a tad bit?
