Are there any how to's to change a water pump on a fourth gen? Anyone did it before on their own? Was it hard?

Thanks guys, sorry didn't think it would be in the FAQs. One mechanic i asked didn't even wanna mess with it. Another said it was a 6-hour job. I don't think its gonna take 6-hours, is it? Anyone did it on their own before? I think i'll give it a shot.

The water pump went out on my 95 the day after i bought it (used). The dealer was kind enough to replace it though. The thing is they had the car for what seemed like a month.

I dont know how long it actually took. But they put on like it was an impossible task.

It is a pretty big job, the shop that did mine did it in an afternoon though.

I did mine a couple of months ago and it took me almost 6 hrs. It wouldve been sooner but it took me a whole hour to get the pump out between the engine and the side-wall. I ended up undoing the engine mount and jacking up the engine to make clearance.

Is overheating and coolant leaking from the pump the only signs of a faulty water pump?

Just changed mine out over the weekend. Also did the thermostat, hoses, belts. I would say six hours is pretty accurate, though someone who's done it before could do it much quicker. Getting the new timing chain tensioner fastened up was the toughest part of the job. Everything is done by feel, not sight. If you are mechanically inclined, I'd say give it a shot.

over heating can happen from not fushing your coolant (fresh coolant), Water pump not pumping the fluid back into the radiator.

If your radiator is leaking

Thermostat isnt opening to allow coolant to run through the engine block.
