chances of getting hydrolocked with CAI

i am going with an ebay CAI i THINK.. i am trying 2 decided the positives and negatives of each.

how often do CAI's hydrolock? considering my max is lowered and it can get pretty rainiy on LI i wouldnt want 2 take the chance. is it difficult 2 achive this. does the filter need 2 be literally submerged in a pudle? will a hyrdolock adapter thing that prevents this be worth the $.

the filter has to be totally submerged to suck water into the engine. seeing as how when you hydrolock the engine it is pretyt much destroyed, anything that can prevent it sure would be worth it.

two of my friends had their cars totaled by cai. one was a wrx and the other was an integra. they both, like idiots, tried to go thru 'puddles' that came up toe the bottom of the doors. totalled both cars. lesson of the story--if u see a large body of water, like a puddle or lake, avoid it.

yeh don't worry about and don't do anything stupid. i ordered a bomz cai last wednsday and those go in the fenderwell so it should be relatively safe.

hmmm the best way to go with the CAI's is cattman, place racing or bomz b/c all those have the same piping that goes in the fenderwell making it a real "cold" air intake. now with weapon r's i have no idea, you'd have to ask the company or someone who has it. also injen sucks.

^^ thats what i always thought. when i read these threads about people hydrolocking, they always say "i saw the puddle comming and tried to avoid it" if you saw it, why not just turn off the engine and coast?

unless if u have a belt or exhaust driven intake then it doesnt matter if u go hai or cai.if u go into a puddle that is deep enough to hydrolock your car then ur probally screwed either way. a fliter in the fender would still get hydrolocked.

If your streets get badly flooded in heavy rains, forget the CAI! You can use a bypass valve but it drastically affects performance. Best way, stay stock, use K&N panel filter and if you want some growl at WOT, hack the airbox. Cheap mod and you'll have plenty of cash left for LED's.

Some people will do anything for sound. Some will spend $200 and some won't Either way, its probably less painful to realize that the gains ain't there and you didn't break the bank doing it.
