99 Maxima Owners plz help

Could you please tell this, when you crank your engine to start, what does your security light do? Does it stay on, or is it blinking? I am trying to find out if the chip in my key is bad. I basically cannot start my car. Thank you in advance.

If it stays on you have a problem. I have never had a permanent difficulty with this, though, which required towing, just temporary ones. Check to make sure everything is grounded properly in terms of electronics, and that all wiring is connected tightly.

Do any work recently? Go back over it. I removed a few things here or there once to try and remove my knock sensor, only to find I couldnt. I did a sloppy job of putting everything back in order, and lo and behold, the Max wouldnt start. I checked everything and went to bed.

The next morning I went outside and made sure all the wiring was tightened, and was able to start the car.

I took the car to Nissan, which told me that I had a stored code for NVIS- Nissan Vehicle Immobilzer System- in my engine computer.

In short, you may have a short- somewheres. Unless, of course, your car came into contact with another transponder (from the wrong key) and as a result wont start.

If all else fails, cross your fingers, and unplug/replug the battery back in.

It stays lit while I am cranking it, that is no good? Can I bypass that feature to see if that is what the problem is? I replaced the alternator.

If it is the emobilzer system, I beleive there is a way around that. The owner's manual talks about it. Something like turn the key to 'on', wait 5 secs, turn off, repeat. Something like that. Read the owner's manual and try that. Is it starts after that, then it is probably the emobilizer sytem.

NVIS CANNOT be bypassed. You have to overcome the problem with your immobilizer system somehow. Start with the measures given above; if they dont work, you may have to have the car towed. You can try resetting your ECU as well, but I think that wont have as much effect (if any at all).

Again, I had the same problem about 1 year ago; I solved it by making sure all wires were terminated properly, unplugging the battery, etc.
