what other shiftknobs will fit on maxima ?

not many 4th gen maximas that are manual around here. does anyone know if a shiftknob off a 300zx, 240ax, 350z will fit on our 4th gen maximas ?

long story short a bunch of parts got stolen off my car, (shiftknob was one), and i may have the only manual 4th gen in NZ. So im just trying to put some pieces together to get the car up and runnning. Thought about the other nissan cars and thought someone might know if they would work.

thanks

300ZX will not fit (I tried), but I've heard the Sentra and 240SX ***** will.

I'm using the 20th anny maxima ****. It's black leather with a brushed alum top. matches my painted center console perfectly. It was about $45 off ebay.

Let me start off by revealing my obsession with manual shift *****.

From my experience, all shift ***** suck, except for the MOMO Race Airleather shift ****. It is expensive, but it'll last years without deteriorating like all others. This shift **** will look brand stinking new for years. I had mine for 2 years now and it looks new, I swear, as if I bought it yesterday. My friend has it for 3+ years now on his WRX, which he consistently competes with in rally cross.

I went through many other shift *****, all of which fell apart quickly. I had the 20th anniversary Maxima **** because many on here convinced me to purchase it. I paid $40 for it and turned out to be a complete POS! First off, the leather or plastic (whatever that fabric is) scraped off and left scuff marks everyone after a mere 5 months of use. Second, the grip was horrible IMO and not at all comfortable.

I had 3 other $20 *****. All either rattled too much (even after tightening them well) or fell apart/deteriorated fast. On top of that, they were either too light or too heavy. Also, the metallic ones burned my hands in the summer and left them frozen during winter.

If you want the best shift ****, go for momo. I bought it for $75 shipped. But let me tell you, it is so worth it. You won’t regret it, mock my words. It’s not too heavy, nor is it too light, it’s perfect for gear changes, especially with the stock Maxima shift lever, cut or not. It has REAL leather wrapped around its entire surface, making it a perfect **** in cold or hot rigid conditions. It has a tremendously comfortable and non-slippery grip. Finally, it is more reliable than any other I know of! Heck, I see virtually no wear on it after 2 years of heavy use. I drive my car every single day and change gears probably as often as I blink. Some have complained of the **** falling off because morons don't know how to screw it in properly. All you have to do is use some "locktight" glue on the screws, and it will NEVER EVER come loose.

cool, well what i had was the courtesy nissan short throw shifter, with the shift **** that came with it. here is the link to my first post, i didnt really include that many photos of the car but there are a few to show what happened. what im basically doing is trying to get the car running. its been sitting for 5 months, and since this all happened i want to at least get the car in running order.

I have sourced a stock airbox/intake setup, maf sensor and hoses for 180 NZ. I could also buy a shift **** off another car like some we have mentioned here, just to get me buy until the insurance covers my losses.

i have noticed that putting the car into different gears (engine off) its real stiff and hard to change gears. could this be from the car sitting so long ? i really have no way to tell if anything else is wrong with the chariot until i can get her to fire up. but the car doesnt seem to be shifting very easy, still has a half a tank of gas which i guess i will drain, and will need an oil change.

link to orignial thread-- chariot was abused during shipping: http://forums.maxima.org/showthread.php?t=376104

Armani for Momo shift *****. i picked up one on christmas to replace my crapping out dookie brown one and i couldnt be happier with it. it looks just as good as the day i put it on and is stuck on the shaft like cement. heres a side pic of it-

its also wrapped in real leather, like yours but i went with a closer to stock feeling ****. this is a quality **** that will take all the abuse you give it.

i'd be wary of the team voodoo shift *****, they scratch (pearl magnum ****), and fade (regular magnum ****). i've had 3 different ones of which 2 scratched and oen was very discolored, i still love them, but if you want something that will look good for a long long time, stick with something else.

Miate shift ***** will thread right on, 240sx ***** and sentra and i do believe altima ***** will also thread right on

good luck!

I have a nismo shift **** on my fourth gen....it screws right on. It goes down really far on the threads so it is much shorter than my previous universial shift ****. They are not cheap but you can get them thru a nissan dealer.

I got a Sola Luna shift **** for a Miata, and I love it. It does get a little cold/hot sometimes, but that goes away quickly and is quite bearable. As you can see......

it's much shorter than stock. It's very solid, and in about 2 years of use shows no signs of wearing out in any way. Only cost like $30.....

Why not get an AE ****. B&M has a universal **** hat screws on. ZIt is weird the way it works. It is short and black leather and it uses sleeves that you screw onto the shifter then you screw the **** onto the sleeve. sorry to hearabout your car man.

Haha, I hear that. After installing my B&M STS all the reattaching of my MOMO **** (WHICH I LOVE AND ADORE SEVERELY,) one of the set screws stripped the thread (not the screw .. the thread on the ****!!) I was quite upset about that, and just two was not cutting it. So, some modification was required to secure the **** ... It wasn't pretty and took like 5 hours of fenagling, but, that ****er isn't going anywhere now.

I also bought a universal MOMO shift boot that threads onto the base of any MOMO ****, and used the old POS plether boot as a pattern to cut out a triangle piece of the MOMO boot (universal large round boot with a rubber band) which had plenty of extra material to shape into what I needed and hand sewed it into a rectangle and put in the old metal retaining rectangle from my stock boot. Worked like a charm.
