ECU differences??

Are all ECU's the same part from 95-98 maximas? (obvioiusly differentiating manual from auto transmissions). I checked the FAQ's and found nothing.

the reason I ask is because I picked up a 97 5 spd. ECU this afternoon and I was wondering if I had it JWT'd would it work in my 95 Max 5spd. I went on jim Wolf's site and they only offer a 95 & 96 ECU upgrade. Any feedback is appreciated.

The answer is no. The 95-96 ecu is different. I think Nissan changed the chip in 97. JWT only works on 95-96 ecus.

won't work with 97.... a 96 won't even work with 95... i tried it before and first the car refused to start.... and when it did it had numerous cel codes....... They all have a sticker on it - usually a letter then a number - if it is different - chances are it won't work

96 ecu's have been known to work in 97's and 98's with one CEL code for the rear 02 sensor. This can be corrected by installing a "fake" 95-96 O2 sensor. Why wouldn't it work the other way around?

100% wrong-

Any 95-98 automatic or manual ECU will work in any 95-98 manual or automatic Maxima/I30. CEL's will pop up for various reasons but the car will start, run and drive fine. I have had several different ECU's form different years and tranny types in my I30 with no issues except CEL's.

But JWT cannot modify a 97 ECU

Why use a simulator when you can do it the proper way?

eng I gotta thank you for the write up. When I get some time I will have to get around to doing this...my 96 ts ecu is throwing the 0707 on me, and i'd like to clear this sucker out and try to pass emissions with the ecu in.

That's exactly what I'm talking about, except instead of buying an actual titania O2 sensor for $100, get a fake one (titania type) for $30 or whatever they cost.

Anyways I just got off the phone with Jim Wolf Tech and a sales rep. told me that a 96 MAY work in my 95 but I'm better off with a 95 ECU in my 95. I mentioned the .ORG to him and he was like "SO??" No discount ... no nothing. Oh well. Thanks guys.
