Adding Fuller Instrumentation to non-SE
Adding Fuller Instrumentation to non-SE
Has anybody added fuller instrumentation to their non-SE 4th Gen? I have a GXE with fuel and temp guages only. If you've added guages in an interesting way and have pictures then please post. I'm looking for ideas.
Thanks.
Thanks.
I have a water temperature guage and a fuel guage. I would like to add common guages such as: 1) battery; and 2) oil pressure. I am soliciting input from other maxima owners with water temperature guages and fuel guages who, like me, would like to determine what is going on with their engines without relying on idiot lights or possibly computer codes. If anybody has added the guages listed above, ie. the battery or oil pressure guages, or any other guages then I would like to see how you added them to your interior. If you don't have any constructive input then please feel free not to respond. Please remember, you don't have to respond to every thread. If you have a picture that is helpful then please post it. If not then feel free to move along to the next thread.
I'm surprised that the SE doesn't have the guages discussed above.
Thanks.

If anybody wants to weigh in with another non-responsive reply then now's the time to do it. Please don't forget to include a picture of the outside of your car. That's even more non-responsive and unhelpful. A picture of your car doing a burn-out is probably the least responsive and most unhelpful reply you could provide. However, it would at least be entertaining.
If anyone actually sees the value to being able to tell what is going on with some of the important systems that make-up your car and if you have added any instrumentation (that you can monitor without waiting for a light to go on) then please post a pic here.

Most of the aftermarket gauges I have seen on Maxima's have been when they are running boost and need to moniter things like oil pressure, EGTs and what not. Oil pressure is, of course, one of the more important measures but it seems as though there are so few problems with VQ running in normal conditions that any additional instrumentation is more cosmetic than anything else.

most manufacturers, esp. the domestics, have begun to eliminate or have eliminated the oil pressure and voltmeter gauges from the gauge cluster ... its called cost cutting
..... wow u guys get worked up fast....
ahh as far as ptutting in more guages into the cluster... if thats what ur asking... look at the cluster.. where are u going to fit it...?
u can always add to the pillar... liek alot of people do.. OR on top of the steering column.... between teh cluster glass and sterring wheel.. you can match to interior color (via paint.. unles sbalck interior) and install into the column for a clean look... or ..
u can put it inot the slide out tray in forn to ur shifter.. alot of people do that.. u can even put about 3 guages in tehre.. whatever floats ur boat.... i wanted to add the oil temp.. but hten i realized .. i dont race.. i dont drive agressively.. except for a street race or two.. but i mean thats hardly hard driving...
I HOPE THATS WHAT YOU WERE LOOKING FOR...
and Wheelie King ur saracasim only fuels more sarcasim... and hey i have a big pic too.. its the only way i could fit all my sutpid comments into it..hehehe
AND YES I KNOW I MISTYPED AOLT... crapp.. ALOT...

. Why do you need to know the status of the things you mentioned unless they are malfunctioning? If you wanna be a gauge f@got be my guest. I'll be the one chuckling next to you at the light.
Apparently its not a popular undertaking. I didn't realize how emotional people got over the issue. My bad. To make up for it, I'm posting a picture of a wicked burn-out that I left with my '97 Maxima in Charlotte, NC. Its 51 feet of posi-like action for your viewing pleasure. Enjoy this one on me...

Wheelie King, your a monkey.
If your looking to install other gauges, simply install them Its not rocket science.
Your not goinmg to be able to fit the gauges your looking for in the cluster unless you remove some of the other items and replace them, then do all the rewiring.
Anything is possible if you have the time and creativity.
You ask for a how to on a really simple subject and then get upset about the responses you get.
If you put the forth the effort that it takes for to type your silly respnses into actually browsing Co's sites that sell aftermarket gauges you might come up with a solution on your own.
If you wish to continue on your lazy quest of solving you gauge issue, simply go to Autozone and buy the triple gauge set thats mounted all together in a metal bezel and screw it into your car somewhere. Maybe you could even come up with the unique idea of placing them all in a faceplate and mounting them in the center console under the headunit?

If you guys don't have anything contructive to say then leave the thread alone. It's funny, there is a thread in the 5th gen forum about different gauge clusters and there is all kinds of helpful info posted. You long time org heads need to lighten up on us newer folks that haven't had a chance to spent our last dime on mods like intakes, rims, struts, springs, body kits and whatever. Please don't make asking questions a regretable move. This is supposed to be a fun place.

Just like YOU, throwing in your 2 cents?
Your post has nothing to do with the topic in question but you feel you should make a comment on all others being postwhores....

Your first post had some interesting info in it, with a little name calling first. I see the average age of most of the members who responded and I see now why there was nothing really intelligent or constructive added after the original question.
So much hate and discontent...I love this place! I have to agree with most of these people though...Why go through all of that work just to include some dummy guages. If you battery isnt working, it will be pretty obvious, and if you check your oil, your oil pressure shouldnt be an issue.
Because I expect at least as much from my '97 Maxima as I got from my '83 Toyota Celica GT. Why does anyone have a spoiler on their Maxima? Does it keep the car on the road at ultra-high speeds? I don't think so. To each his own. Its a minor addition I'm considering but its obviously not for everyone. Luckily, everyone won't be driving my car. Thanks for the input and as always, enjoy the picture of the 51 foot posi burn-out from my Maxima!
