I'm trying to put an i30 auto-dimming mirrow in my max -- HELP!!!
OK, I've heard that if your maxima has a homelink visor then it should be wired for an auto-dimming mirror. I got the mirror today, but I can not find a harness to connect it into.
Can anyone help me???
I am clueless on how to hook this thing up.

From what I remmeber when I installed mine is I had two wires. One hooked up to the power sorce tapped into the cigarette lighter and then the other GROUNDED to my Ebrake. The autodim has nothing to do with the wires.
The last wire I had was for my temperature gauage. Took like 15 min to do the whole install.

I got the schematic from a dealer. There were different diagrams for different years. I got mine from a 96 I-30. I honestly forgot what I did but I think I only used hot and ground somehow. One was going to the instrument cluster, don't remember why, and I think one went to the switch for the lights or something. I got around all that. I'll see if I can find the schematic. If you call the dealer and know someone there they can tell you what wire goes where but you will need to know the year model the mirror came from. People may say I'm nuts but I had a 35 year master tech print the diagrams. They do differ by year. Each diagram was different and they listed the model year and which car.

I got this through some old emails and PM's from a fellow org member
Credit: max99se and Max4speed
1. Black - Ground
2. Red with Yellow Stripe - Find this on the back of the speedo
3. Red with Blue Stripe - Find this on the back of the speedo
4. Green with Blue Stripe - I think this is just an accessory wire and can be wired to any power source that is on when your ignition is turned on.
I might be wrong on color codes but i found 3 of the above four on the speedo meter including BLACK. One of them that i couldnt find went to an ignition power source. Let me know if you need any more help.

Ok, heres the deal with the four wire connector.. I installed an auto dimming mirror in my max a while back and there isnt any connector pre-wired in the maxima for an autodimming mirror.. I got the wiring diagram from an I-30 to figure out where each wire was supposed to be hooked up..
*black goes to ground
*red/yellow wire goes to the illumination control switch on the dash under the gauge cluster
*red/blue goes to the light switch fuse #18 7.5A in the fuse panel which is by the hood release, the wire coming from this fuse should be a blue/yellow wire
*green/blue goes to any 12v switched on/start source.
I used splice terminals that you put the factory wire in one side and your lead wire in the other and as you crimp the connector it punctures both wires creating your circuit, this way I didnt have to cut any factory wiring. You can find these types of splice caps at any local hardware store or home improvement warehouse.
If you dont care about the buttons lighting up and or dimming when you turn the headlights on then you dont have to worry about the red/yellow or red/blue wires, you can just hook up the ground wire to a good ground and the green/blue to a 12v source and it should work. Hope this information helps if you have any questions let me know..

I do believe Seth is right. I remember that one went to the dimmer. The gauge cluster thing is possible, I was told the same thing but it would be a pain. I just wired mine so the auto and day switch are bright all the time and hard wired it to the light. It's on (mirror always has power) all the time and no issues as of yet. Been hard wired (hot) for over 6 months and I only drive my car on weekends. I have a company car.

So the I30 mirror is still ceiling mounted, right? I have a mirror sitting at home that cost me ~$200 that has map lights, auto dim, compass and outside temp. Call me crazy but I have not installed it because I don't want a fricken button glued to my windshield.

Cool, maybe I'll get around to doing mine soon. You inspired me.
In fact, I have to! I have a tint appointment for the 15th and I plan on doing a windshield strip. So the only thing the I30 mirror does is automatically dim? Any other features? No offense but I don't think I could care any less about the auto-dim feature. I never even flick my day/night stick right now. The last thing I want is the car doing it for me. Even though my mirror is technically an auto-dim with other features, it's the other features that sold me.
