As I was driving my 99 5spd...my check engine light blinks on 2nd/3rd gear going over 4000-4500 rpm before shifting but goes away after like 30sec-1 min..does anyone have any idea in why it comes on like that? thanks

ok so i drove to my dads shop and the light was blinking again and stopped... i scanned the codes and showed knock sensor and cylinder #3 misfire...shouldnt the light be on if its the knock sensor?..happened to my other one before...light was on...anyways so yea..i was doing other tests with the OTC computer and was checking the other sensors..bank 2 was like 99.2...that didnt look right so i checked on the other maxima..same thing so i guess thats fine? the idle was pretty low...around 620-650rpm compared to the other one which was 710-740..there is a misfire i guess...where sould i start? car has 85,700 miles and its a 99..

Anyone know why I was experiencing this same problem a few months ago, but during the past couple months it doesn't happen anymore?

I currently have 141,000 miles on my 99. At 105,000 miles (previous owner), my "ignition coil pack #4" was replaced, along with some new sparkies.

Thanks.

Replace the coil pack on cylinder #3.

The knock sensor will not set the CEL.

The knock sensor code you got with the misfire code could be considered a ghost code. Replace the #3 coil pack and clear the error codes. You should be fine after that, but check after a week or so for the knock sensor code. If it's still there, replace the knock sensor.

I am having this problem too. It says knock sensor circuit mal. How sure are you it could be the cylinder #3? While back I got random misfire, which does not mean anything to me. Any other ideas greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Replace coil pack on cylinder #3, I just did. That is why your cel flashes, mine did that too.
