I located a set (both left and right) of rear calipers off of a 96 maxima at a nearby salvage yard for $50 for both. Will these work with my '99? This just seems easier instead of paying $170 for ONE rebuilt rear caliper.

 

Yes they are all the same from 95-99... make sure you check them out.. you never know how good they really are.

 

yea i would def make sure ya check them out, $50 isnt bad for a pair of calipers. you can also check with autozone they should have or be able to get loaded rear calipers (calipers, brackets, pads, and hardware) for around $130. just curious is the $170 nissan or wheres that from?

 

I would never purchase used brake components.

rears can be rebuilt for cheap anyhow so he cant lose.

 

But for $50, you can't go wrong. Worst case is one of them seizes, then I have it rebuilt.

I'll inspect them when I go to pick them up tomrow. I was told they are coming off a recently daily driven car, so they havent been sitting around at all. They are taking them off the car tomorow morning. Id seriously rather do this than spend $250-300 for two rebuilt calipers.

Are you looking around for rebuilts? I bought mine (front calipers rebuilt with LLT) for like $70-80 for both. autzone...checker.

Cheap if you ask me...especially since I've crashed a car once because I was being cheap on brakes.

 

front calipers are totally different than the rears. the parking brake mechanism in the rear drives the rebuild costs up considerably.

you could pull them apart and rebuild them yourself, but you've got to have more than the average tool set to do that.

For $50 you can't go wrong, as has been said. As long as the slider pins move freely, the dustboots aren't torn, and the piston moves smoothly and without leaks, then you're okay.

my stock rear calipers have over 200,000 miles on them and never been rebuilt.. they've seen dozens of track days too.. never leaked a drop of fluid.

my bad....I read caliper and assumed front.

My rear calipers have lasted 250K miles, and I haven't replaced...they still move freely and no leaks. I guess the rears last long. heh.
