Tranny Troubles I know someone has had this problem

Whenever I shift gears I can hear a clunking noise. The noise only happens when I'm rolling >=2mph. When I stop it no longer makes noise when shifting. If i give it a lot of gas real fast or get off of it real fast you can hear the clunking noise again. I checked all the shifting linkage up to the tranny and its all looking good. I have a lift, and when I put my car up on it all of the parts, that could make the noise, look pretty good. It could be just me but I think it started when I replaced the passenger side CV joint.

Anyone have any suggestions? This is driving me completely crazy. Anyone with just a guess, feel free to post. Im beginning to think its in my tranny.

could be your poilt bearing,throw-out bearing in your clutch or sycros in the tranny. (Not 2 sure if i spelled that right)

I hadn't thought about the pilot bearing, a possiblity. It doesnt squeel or feel rough though. And my only thing with the syncros is that it makes the clunk noise between almost all the gears if I get on it fast enough and let off it fast enough. I dont drive it like that but....you get the picture. Does yours make that noise at all or do you hear nothing when shifting?

One last thing.....It makes the noise when shifting even if I dont let the clutch out. Just the shifting motion alone from second to third will make the noise. Thanks for your help!

BUMP

EDIT: Isn't there supposed to be some sort of tranny bearing problem in the 95&96's?

what happens when you let go of the clutch and the car is NOT moving? Might be your throw out bearing

Check motor and trans mounts. Sounds like trans is moving around when on / off gas.

Peace,
Kevin

Thanks for all the help. Its not a grinding noise, just a clanking. I thought it was the motor mounts and\or tranny mounts, so I replaced them. Still does it. I get the same clanking noise when shifting whether I engage the clutch or not. So say im in second, I let off the clutch shift from second to third(it makes loud clanking noise) I let the clutch out and give it gas(makes loud clanking noise again). It has to be some sort of shifting linkage inside the tranny, I dont want to take it to Nissan but I almost feel as if I have to. Im so broke lol.
