special tool for axle seals??
special tool for axle seals??
Need a little help here. My car is a '96 Infiniti I30 w/ five speed manual tranny, 145k miles.
I've got to pull the transmission, as the clutch has started slipping. I've got the factory service manual, and in the procedure for installing the drive shafts back into the transmission, it call for a special tool to seat the new seals in the transmission prior to installing the driveshafts.
Do I really need this special tool, or can I get by without it?
Thanks in advance,
Max

I got mine out with a little screwdriver and some elbow grease. It just took some time and effort and a little akward positioning of me under the car. The new one just pushed in without any trouble. I really didn't want to purchase the tool for the job as I didn't anticipate ever having to do it again.
