all I can say is life ain't always easy. Yea, I love my benz...I mean maxima. I can proudly say that every car I've owned has been earned. Not saying any of you didn't earn yours, just saying be happy you have something worth modding, cause your car could look like that!

Trust me, young brother, it doesn't get any easier to afford this expensive stuff when you have gone to college, earned two Masters Degrees and worked for 18 years. At 41, I still can't afford to do my car up right. Maybe my line of work is the reason, it doesn't make me very wealthy.

i bought my car when i was 16 (i started working at this mail order computer place when i was 12 to make the downpayment). it was right before junior year and in those two years i bought and installed a LOT of mods. come to think of it I haven't installed ANY mods at all after graduating.

here's my advice. don't stress about school. learn how to cheat the system. do your homework in class, take proper notes so you can do well on tests. only do as much work as you have to, but do well on tests.

get a job.

not ****ing banana republic. get a decent job. can't get any hookups from friends or family? go work at FedEx Kinkos. $8.50 starting. work like 20hrs a week or more.

check the for sale/trade forums frequently. i bought a lot of parts second hand. often the people you buy them from will also help you install them and you'll meet more likeminded people. I bought my Y-pipe (cattman SS) for something like $250 in awesome shape. I bought my sprints and AGX's for $400, also in great shape. I actually bought both from the same person (BriGuyMax) at different times and Brian installed the Y-Pipe for $20 and the suspension for free (we basically swapped suspensions). I bought a Stillen strut bar for $60 (this was before the eBay bars).

Be involved in the maxima community. not just on this website, but find people in your area and hang out. i've never had a bad time with someone from here and have made some great friends. more on topic, someone that someone knows is ALWAYS selling something or trading something.

its so hard to mod my Max because..

- I have a $300/month payment on my '04 Grand Cherokee
- I've spent over $2,000 in maintenance & repairs to undo my brother's neglect .. and I'm still not done yet (new set of foglights & a driver's side mirror)
- My mom is currently driving the Max b/c my oldest sister has my Mom's Chevy Blazer until my sister gets her Saab convertible within the next week or so and gives my Mom the Blazer back
- The roads are terrible here in MI (this is why I'm not lowering my Max)

forget about the car in highschool, focus on getting good marks and getting into a good university. then during summer months of university save some $ and use it towards the car.

High school is heaven.. you still live at home, you dont buy anything for yourself, you dont have to feed yourself, and I can guarantee you dont even pay for insurance and if you did, its a meager few hundred bucks compared to here where Im getting raped for $4,000 a year plus car payments, plus school, rent, etc... you just pay for gas and go...

Wait till real life comes and hits you. Rent, car payments, insurance, g/f, etc...

I wish I was back in highschool, life was so easy.

i work in an office, job isn't too great (as well as a few of the coworkers), but helps pay my bills and gives me some spending $$ for whatever ... i'm working on going back to college, started fall '97, stopped in '02/'03 due to personal issues so I didn't quite get my undergrad. degree, now I'm planning on going back to college and getting my I.S. degree in business so I can have a far better job and make more $$ by 30

sweet! I only need one anyway.

as for the high school kids....i know you don't have much money to spend, but I'll give you guys a lot of credit. You're here posting about your sorrows instead of being like most teenagers that rice out their cars. Hearing terms like "y-pipe" and "red/clears" coming from you says you're doing something right! Keep it up...and enjoy high school while you still can!

I've gotta say, I've got it pretty good. I payed half for my car (this was a deal with my parents to keep me out of a sports car -- or else I'd be driving a Z32 right now. Little did they know that the Max will take a Z from a dig...) Anyways, I work a job at a very popular BBQ restaurant, and get 6.70/hr plus about 2-8/hr on tips. The g/f however, is killing me. It's all the little expenses that'll beurn a hole in my pocket. Right now I have a couple g's stored away, and so far have done the home depot-esqe mods. I've been spending a reasonable amount on all the maintenence I've done, plus Knock Sensor, and a complete clutch job ($700+). Oh yea, $100 a month on insurance too. I love my car...
Oh, and I'm sooo thankful that my tranny failed under the 30 day warantee my car had....that would've sucked big time

tell me about it! in my area I see just about the same kids w/ G35's, TL's, 300C's, but add any Lexus (IS, GS, LS, etc..) and any Cadillac (Escalade (EXT, ESV), CTS, SRX), or any BMW series to the mix

average 15hrs/$3.00hr+tips($30 +) I make decent money for my age while still being a HS student. I want to mod my car just as much as anyone else wants to but i have to fix the things that are wrong with my car first. Modding takes time Most people that you see in the magazines have had there car for a few years.

Now that I think about it, thats why I always see modded car at fast food places we tend to spend soo much money on the cars that, thats all we can really afford to eat. I've yet to see a Modded cat at Red Lobster or Olive garden.
