Thing is that some guys in order to drain the oil from tranny unplug the reverse position sensor, since sometimes it is hard to get or unscrew the drain bolt. Behind reverse position sensow is a switch, which may accidentally be drained together with oil. If you loose the switch, you loose backup lights.
