97 I-30 doesn't shift down to 1st except for full throttle
Hi, for a while now my 97 I-30 automatic hasn't downshifted to first unless I floor it, I can put the pedal 3/4 down and it will just accelerate from second only... it can be a problem if you pull out in front of someone from a stand still, if I put it all the way to the floor it will finally kick down to first and take off. So, basically the car takes off like a rocket if I floor it or it slowly accelerates through second until higher rpms and then takes off, no in-between at all.
I have no idea what could be causing this. A TPS? Something else? Ideas?
Thanks.
Darren

My 98 max does this sometimes not all the time.
I also had a 91 Acura Legend and 96 Acura RL both would do the same thing at stop signs and stop lights, to the point where everytime I came to a stop I would manualy put the car in D1 then back to D. When i did that i felt the car shift into 1st.

That's exactly what I do now, I put it in 1st so I know I will have good throttle response then shift to drive after I'm in traffic. The car does this every time, consistently so first is pretty much never used unless I floor it. I've nearly got in accidents when pulling in front of someone and the car goes nowhere. Sometimes even when I put it to the floor nothing happens for up to 3 seconds... nothing, just like I never hit the throttle, I have to let off and floor it again and sometimes it will take off, other times I have to repeat. This happens every once in a while.
