Man...
I'm telling you...
I've got traction issues...
I need to do something about this...
It's really annoying.

I spin off the line.
I skid when I stop.
I understeer when I turn.

It's making the Audi's w/Q look really good...
But they're too much of a headache to maintain.

Can someone in lameman's terms tell me what I should be doin?

Maybe I should really start looking into changing my car?
But I'm sure you guys will convince me otherwise.

FYI.. stock 15's, auto, weak brakepads w/o abs, maxsprings on AGY's...

Oh, did I mention. You Orgers Rule... Again and again and again.

Sounds like you are in dire need of new tires.

Ok, First things first. The only Quattro is the original coupe Quattro.

All the rest are just quattro:

First and foremost, check out your tires. Correct tire pressure. Good quality rubber, preferrable of the performance variety.
Good brake pads (I like Ferodo Street / Autocross compound and Hawk HPS+)
Flush brake fluid (use good brake fluid) The wife's maxima gets Valvoline Synthetic and both the S4 and the Bertone get Motul (flush it annually).
Analize the condition of your suspension (worn struts/shocks, strut bearings, tie rod ends, etc.) A good alignment shop can do this for you.

Recommendations.

Tires: Yokohama ES100's in 225/60/15 on OEM rims. 35PSI all around.
Brakes: Hawk HPS+ plus SS braided brake lines + speedbleeders + fresh fluid
SHocks / Struts: (as you car is a 96, it is probably due) AGX's (at same time, replace all strut bumpers and strut bearings.

Now, go out and practice threshold braking (most brakes applied without locking things up).
And practice your launches. With the 225/60/15's, traction should not be an issue.

Good luck,
Kevin

The stock tire size is 205/65-15. It's a 6 inch wide rim. 225/60 will give the wrong overall diameter and I wouldnt recommend running a 225 tire on a 6 inch rim.

He already has AGX adjustable struts and lowering springs, as he already posted.

Also, the Yoko ES100 isn't available in 225/60-15 anyway...

Sorry for being a bit OT, but I was looking at getting some new brake hardware, Brembo crossdrilled/slotted rotors f&r, SS braided brake lines, and pads. I was looking at the HPS pads, but when I look at prices, it says "axle set", what does that mean? Thanks for the help.

When you see them priced "per axle" or whatever, that means that's the price for both left and right front or left and right rear. You'll get 4 pads.

Its LAYMAN's terms, you are not lame (you can walk, right?).

As for traction, most of the wheel spin off the line is due to it being a FWD car, and you just have to get better at launching. Better tires = big plus. Also, next time buy a 5 speed, much more control over launches, and its more fun to drive.

It's not like he's boosted. Our cars aren't that bad on launches.

Running Potenza RE950's on sawblades w/ a 5 spd. Only traction issues I ever see occur in the really wet. Sometimes I do break em loose just for fun, the kids love it.

will have to spend some money on a wider rim/tire, a sticky tire, lsd, motor mounts, and fire out of the whole around 2-2.5k .. also check parking brake and make sure its not up ! lol

Yeah, our cars have enough torque to make that happen. I have them on my stock steelies and they're phenominal in the wet.

I have been running 225/60/15's on teh wife maxima on stock wheels for 5 years now. less than 1% difference in overall diameter of tire.
Also, the wider sidewall acts as a rim protector.

As for tires on rims, I have run 235's on a 4" wide wheel before.
Funny wear patterns, but boy is there some stick there.

Peace,
Kevin
