Water pump access cover bolt stripped
Water pump access cover bolt stripped
The good news is, I was able to pull the bolt that slipped into the timing chain cover out by fishing it out through the oil pan.
The bad news is, when I replaced the black bulging access port for the water pump, I overtightened one of the bolts and stripped the head off. Now, the access cover is closed. However, IF I ever need to change my water pump again, the stripped bolt will be holding the cover on.
So, question is what do you recommend in order to the get the stripped bolt out? My thinking is, the permatex RTV sealant will make getting the lower part of that bolt out of the thread extremely hard.

If you can drill a slot in the bolt head with a dremel, then use a flat screwdriver... but you said you torqued the bolt real tight: a flat screwdriver might not have enough torque.
Maybe use a dremel with a grinding (stone) head to resurface 2 or more of the faces of the bolt head, then sacrifice a socket you will hammer in real tight onto the bolt head.
There are also special stripped head bolt removal tools available, for about $20.

Did your strip the bolt or did the bolt break and there is nothing there any more, just bolt inside the hole ??
Unless you were using the wrong size socket, there is no way even if you over tighten that bolt ALL night that you would strip the head...youd have to have the wrong socket on there
