Driver side mirror install

I know this may sound corny but I cant find anything on here since the search feature is disabled.

I am trying to install a new driver side electric mirror on my 96 max but I cant figure out how to get the old one off. Do you have to remove the whole door skin? If so, how is that done?

Can anyone direct me to where I might find a tutorial of this? Or a write up.

Thanks in advance, and sorry for leaching bandwidth.

just guessing, but i think you remove that black triangle piece on the inside of the door...then under there, there is 3 screws or something holding it on. i don't remember if i took that black piece off a while ago and saw this, or if i'm imagining i did it. i've done it on a few friends cars and that's how it was though. goodluck

if that's not right, and no one else helps by tomorrow, i'll look in my fsm for you that's out in my trunk.

yeah your right. the black plastic piece is what needs to come off. the top pops off pretty easily, but the bottom seems to be anchored in pretty well and I dont want to just pull on it and end up breaking something. it almost looks like the triangle piece goes down inside the door panel and is attatched down there somewhere, so I think i might have to take the whole door panel off.

anyway, if anyone out there has done this before and knows, please feel free to share.

thanks

i just switched my passenger side mirror recently, i think it should be the same. your gonna have to remove the interior door panel because the triangle piece is screwed in on the bottom behind the panel and the wires are behind the panel. if i remember correctly, i think there are three screws for the panel, two on the bottom of panel and one under the handle??? NEXT to the window and lock switches. you have to pry off the plastic piece to get to the screw underwards. last part is you have to pry off the plastic piece from the front tip BEHIND the door lock and handle on top. lift up to take the panel off, but becareful cuz there are wires attached to it. then you can unscrew off the triangle piece, unplug mirror and unscrew it off. do the reverse to put it back on. hope this helps
