How to recieve codes from your car?

I see everyone talking about codes, how do you receive those on your car?


I have a 95 maxima

is it ok to do this even if your engine light is not on? Can Codes still show up?

Yes you might find some Ghost codes.

If they are ghost codes like Knock Sensor then I don't see why not.
If you do it when your engine light is not on, you won't do any harm
