Making the doors close smoother

My driver's side door has become very clunky when closing it. Is there anyway to replace the door jams? I'm not quite sure what they're called but those rubber covered springs that catch the door when your close it, would changing these make the door close nice and smooth again?

if I had to guess, maybe you need new door pins. ie: the pin that is in the door hinge. I've never seen this being a problem in maximas, but it is a common problem with cars that have heavy doors. (camaros, mustangs, and many other 2-door cars) the bushing on the pin get worn and the door sags.

see if your door is dragging/hitting on the bottom panel, if it is, then I second what erty67 said. If its hitting badly, you can just beat the panel down if it is knocked up - its what I did on my '90 300zx.

WD 40 doesn't help lubricate the doors. You need to use a silicone spray. You might just need to lubricate the hinges.

there is a part supposedly that can be replaced that will fix your problem. i remember a thread about it a while ago. i'll see if i can dig it up if no one else remembers. try calling the dealer because i'm sure they'll know what needs to be replaced.

A: YES! Here's some information from George:

The "Link-Door Stopp", PN# 80430-51U01 is what needed to be replaced when my front doors started "binding". They also called it a door stay on the work order. Nissan calls the part a "countermeasure part". Replaced under warranty. The rear doors had the new type part already.
