Squeal from Auto Climate

I've noticed ALOT lately that whenever my heat is on, I hear a squealing/squeakin sound...it's actually at it's worst when I leave the heat on and shut the car off then later on start it back up with it automatically coming on where I had it set too. It's annoying as hell. A bearing? A belt? Anybody else have this.

dont know about your year, but the 99s are notorious for noise from the fan, but thats usually a ticking sound. is it coming from under the hood or in the cabin? when your heat is on do you have the a/c compressor running also? i dont know about your layout but again the 99s have auto mode which has the a/c on and econ mode which is no a/c. if you have the same does it make the sound on both settings?

edit: woohoo 300 posts!

Sounds mostly likely to be your heater fan, you might be able to lube it some if you're willing to strip it down

I think that thing is near the passenger's feet, but it's a sealed unit. Hey, if it's not sealed, let us know, I may take a stab at doing what you said to get rid of the noise. One tends not to notice when the fan is on 3 or 4, in manual mode. I was dumb, I heard that noise in the high 20's, but let the dealer convince me "it's normal." It's gotten worse over time. The dealer said the reason it sounds like that is it's in a cheesy plastic housing, so it's loud.

p.s.--love your brushed alum. dash, looks nice.
