painting header heat shield

this weekend i painted my spark plug cover with some black engine enamal and after i was finished with that i had a lot of paint left over so i was looking for something to paint. i noticed that my header shield was looking pretty rough with some rust here and there so i decided to give it a nice paint up tonight. taking the thing off was a biatch so putting it back on prolly wont be a picnic either, but i was wondering if anyone else has painted their header cover.

Mine is black. It will fade fairly quickly due to heat. Toss some clear on it to keep the deep true color.

it fades even with engine enamel? does the clear have to be high temp?

Yes, engine enamel will fade. Yes, the clear has to be engine enamel. Not high temp though. I don't think they make it.
