Help!!

Need help w/ my 95 Maxima. Just picked the car up from a friend that let it sit virtually unused for a few months. Problems are as follows:

Starter replaced.
Battery replaced.

Car starts with little trouble but will not stay on past 3000 rpm's.
At 3000 rpms the engine sounds like a lawnmower. The rest of the engine seems to be functioning fine. Think this may be a sensor issue. What do you think?????
Once I plugged in the air cleaner sensor the car dies.

Thanks.. Mitch

Don't know what you mean by "air cleaner sensor" but it sounds like your MAF is probably bad.

Sounds like an EGR Problem. Which sensor do you plug in for the car to die? I'd change that sensor first.

You should do a compression test too.

could be that the car is in dire need of oil....that's usually what the lawnmower sound is.

Oil is good. The connection on the air intake is the one that shut down the engine once attached. So it could be the MAF or the EGR? Going to check the codes tonight. Thanks again for the help.

MAF unplugged, car goes into fail safe mode and will not rev beyond 2.5/3K.
Plug it in and the engine dies, thats probably a good indication thats it's not working correctly.

Conclusion------- Replace your MAF sensor.
