Just sent mine in for a rebuild. 85k. I'm not very happy with the durability of these transmissions for the 4th gen. maxima. I love the car, but gimme a break. They should be lasting way longer than this. $1300 for my rebuild this week!

Original Tranny Auto

I am on my Original transmission with a whopping 215000 miles
I am seeing some leakage from the tranny I think. Anyone had any leaks from the transmission?

I had leaking from my old transmission when I had a worn input shaft. leaked all on my clutch ruining it. F**king bearing issue.

I have a rebuilt tranny, it sux big time. Well not too bad. My 5th gear grinds every time, I have to double clutch and let rpm's drop to around 1k. It started doing this about 2k after rebuild. Long story but that was 2years ago.

98 GLE, 166k, A/t, has a very hard 1-2 shift and pretty rough 2-3. It was flushed at 110K and shifted like a champ until last week. Getting another flush today and see if it helps. If not, off to the wrecking yard for a 29K miles, $750 trans.

Any advice?

How hard do you drive? I have floored it atleast once everyday for the past 8 months, & did a few 140mph runs.. Maybe my tranny wouldnt be leaking if I took it more easy on her.

Tranny died on me on a road trip last August 2004 / 120,000km automatic. Towed it back home CAA gold/plus "thank god would have cost bundle" (AAA samething). Had it rebuilt, it is still going strong and currently has 127,000km on it. I dont race anymore LOL but i have those ocasional moments where my foot feels heavy . I got a 1 year warrenty on the rebuild Ill see hot it handles this summer and decide what to do. I also wanted to convert to manual but because Im in Montreal, Canada i had trouble finding people who have done it and who are willing to do it. Oh well....

Overall, I don't drive hard. I do wind it out fairly often for onramp re-entries though My wife drives it about half the time and she's very easy on vehicles, even on the clutch which is original! (A clutch outlasts the transaxle!)

The bearing issue isn't related to driving style, it's due to excessive preload (not enough slack) when the bearings were installed by the factory, causing excessive wear. The gears take the brunt of the torque during spirited driving, the bearings should just be happily spinning in their races.

00, 80k, original 5 speed. Put MT90 in at 60k.
97, 92k, original 5 speed. It's a bit resistant between first and second especially, that problem compounded with the cold and when it's not warmed up. Will be putting in MT90 this weekend.

120,500 miles A/T and going strong. For the people that drive hard do you guys have a tranny cooler in it. I would imagine that would help with the wear and tear.

126k on the orignial tranny (that I know of) and hoping that nothing big will go wrong. I got down on it really hard the other day because I thought my parents were going to sell the car. I hope I didnt do to much damage. I wont find out tell friday since the car is already in the shop for another engine.

original 138,000 a/t what exactly is the vb mod? can someone elaborate.

edit: hard shift from 1-2 doesn't matter what RPM Im at low or high. Unless its been warmed up a little then not so bad.
