custom steering wheel

ok has anyone sucessfully took the cruise and volume buttons from another nissan sterring wheel and put it on the maxima. This specfically appplies to carpc users. I was planning on having the volume and skip button like quests and pathfinders do. Is it possible to do it? Here is a pic. As you can see there are two sets of buttons. One on left are the cruise buttons. The one on the right are volume and skip buttons.

well the cruise buttons shouldnt be affected. now the volume buttons i wanted to convert it into like a com port and use linux use the button. But i dunno how the connection works? Do u think its better to swap the steering wheel. Like sawp a 99 quest steering wheel. They look exactly the same.

Com port or parallel port? You're better off using the parport. Supply a TTL signal, get the parapin driver for Linux and you're done.

hey carbondreams95, I'm gonna try my best to make an oem carpc for my maxima. It will replace the bose hu and the cd drive will be a slot load dvd drive on the slot under the hu. The only problem I'm having is that I can't find a touchscreen lcd that has similar dimensions as the bose hu did meaning dremling my wood panel. I dont feel like doing that. After that Ill connect the volume button to via some port. Alsosryth, what difference does it make to use parallell or com port?

Well...the com port is serial, while the parort is not. You can individually set/check pins on the parallel port...not so easy to do on the com port.
