Stuck shifter

I spilled some Orange Fanta on the shifter gear box and it has become harder to move the shifter (although it is still movable but greater effort than usual is required). I cleaned up the spillage as best as I could but is there the possibility of some serious damage to the gear box if I don't get it looked at.

Thanks,
Felix

Instead of taking the whol console apart, could you spray WD-40 down there?
I know that there are elec. connections down there...but just checking.

you might have shorted out the shift lock soleniod. either that or all the little rods in there related to that thing are gummed up. like they said try clean them guts inside up a little. really not that hard to take the shifter trim off. one screw by ashtray, one clip behind the ashtray(just pry on right side of it) and then pry on the sides of the trim between it and the vinyl. popping it up on one side of the trim. i had to remove my shift lock soleniod. no biggy

I dont understand you spilled the **** on the shifter or the actual transmission? If you just spilled it on the shifter, then just take the trim off and and take the shifter apart and clean the **** up.
