KS covered w/ melted plastic?

Just replaced my KS successfully; no more codes. BUT - when taking out the old one, it was covered with what looked like melted plastic... The KS was covered, and it looked like it had dripped down all around it, all the way down over the mount, down to the engine... Has anyone else seen this???

It literally looked like black wax had been dripped all over it - like the top of a bottle of Makers' Mark bourbon!

Unfortunately, the new KS didn't solve my problem - a missing or "bumping" when the car is stopped at idle after it gets warmed up. I originally thought it was a coil, but the resistance checked out fine on all of them. I even disconnected the coils one at a time to see if there was a difference; I thought one back cylinder was the problem and actually got a new coil pack, but that wasn't it. Rotated the new coil through all the back cylinders, no luck.

Some people have suggested a fuel filter, which I will change, but I don't think that's the problem. I originally got a code for coolant temp sensor and KS, so I've changed both of those. After replacing the CTS, there was no more CEL, but the KS code AND 0201 - Ignition signal circuit. But after replacing the KS, no more codes..... I'm stuck!!! What else could this be?
