whistle at idle. exhaust leak?
when ever i am stoped and at idle, i hear a high pitched whistle comming from my car. when i even slightly tap the gas the whistle goes away. its not like a belt squeek or anything like that, just a constant whistle, like a dog whistle.
a few weeks ago i replaced my cat. the bolts on the cat back side were rusted on and i had to slice them off with a grinder and i think i may have ground off a little bit of the cat back flange. im guessing that when im at idle there is just the right ammount of air passing over that hole to make a whistle and that when i increase the RPM even slightly, there is more air flowing faster so it doesnt hit the hole quite right to make the sound.
anyone want to confirm my theory or prove me wrong? my exhaust does seam slightly louder which would also mean an exhaust leak.

You probably do have an exhaust leak. Depending on the size and location of the leak the exhaust would be louder. However, exhaust leaks do not make whining sounds as far as I know, they either make it louder and/or make a rumbling sound at idle.
Whistling sounds at idle are usually caused by vacuum leaks. I did a port and polish to my upper and lower intake manifolds about two weeks ago and I got a whistling noise since the install, I may not have torqued the lower IM enough, or it may be the P&P itself that is resonating at idle inside the manifolds.
Have you cleaned ur TB or IACV and didn't tighten them down recently? EGR leaking where it hooks up to the IM?
