whats design cause of EGR problems

Any idea what the design cause of Maxima's EGR problems is?
They seem more afflicted than other brands.
Is the small pipe too long? too small in diameter?

whats the basic cause compared to other brands?

I understand what you mean, but I dunno.

He's thinking, that a Maxima's EGR system is flawed. As in, it fails more than other brands. He's wondering why.

I don't know if the EGR system is flawed in design, nor do I know if the EGR system fails more often than other brands.

Speak english next time...heh.

sorry about that. maybe i should have explained it more.
To me there seem to be a lot of EGR related posts on this board (like more than on Toyotas - no NOT trying to start a brand war) and EGR problems were listed as a "problem" on 99 Maximas in a MSN car review i read. So
I woundered if anyone knew what caused it - it is probably design related- a different pipe, either in length or diameter connected to the EGR valve or maybe the valve itself is too small..

Same with ECU (computer) problems. I think the Nissan people have the specs that turn on the engine check light set too tight as there are a LOT of
ECU check light posts, again more than on toyotas.

The EGR (exhaust gas recirculation) system tends to build up carbon which can block the passages. Possible causes might be a poorly maintained engine or incorrect grade of fuel used.

Keep your engine maintained and use the correct grade of fuel to minimize excess carbon build up in the EGR passages. Perhaps they were designed a little to small for the VQ which makes them prone to it.........but thats just a guess.

The whole EGR things is (IMHO) a silly way to meet emmision requirements.
Recirculating exhaust gases to reduce the temp of combustion to reduce NOx is silly.

The Germans have always used the philosophy of increasing cylinderhead temps for a more complete combustion to meet these requirements without the added hardware and lines of an EGR system.

On our cars the culprit seems to be a bad EGR solenoid valve.
