RS6 Bi-Xenon Retro Fit - In progress w/ Pics (56K Warning)
Just wanted to share with everyone my current progress in retro fitting some RS6 Bi-Xenon projectors from a 2003 Audi A6. The process is fairly easy but very time consuming. Tips in installation were taken from reading the numerous post on hidplanet.com. The RS6 Bi-Xenon projectors are very small and seem to be a perfect fit for the 4th Gen Maxima headlight. The projectors have been modified by adding 2 #8 washers all around in order to get the purple cutoff color. The trade-off for this color mod is that it has caused a slight drop off in the cutoff to the right. The shroud used is dryer duct with aluminum tape. The bezel used is from a PVC 4"-3" pipe reducer which will be painted silver/chrome later. I have tried using a 6" drip pan for the bezel but didn't like how it came out. I may experiment with other house hold items for the bezel later. Well, enough talking here are the pics.

DRIFFT MAX, I would paint it black if I were not going to put a row of 18000mcd hyper white leds on the bottom of the headlight for my city light mod. The chrome paint will allow for better reflection than the black paint. Now, if they only sold black chrome paint at a reasonable price then I would go that route. Thanks for all the comments guys; keep them coming.

blk_g20: The LEDs will be fine to use in the headlight. I have used them before with direct exposure to 80/100watt halogen bulbs with no problems. The LEDs will be outside of the projector housing (shroud) and will not be used when the projectors are on.
wariow: There are currently no install pics as I have only finished the left side. Work permits me to only work on this project on the weekends so hopefully this weekend I will have some install pics for you. I will be sure to post when completed.

Here is a quick photoshop of how I'm thinking of painting the headlight. The first is a modified AE scheme with color match bezel. I'm trying to keep the reflective chrome paint on the back for my city light mod. The 2nd picture is the entire headlight blacked out with matching bezel. Which one would you choose 1)AE Style or 2) All Black Style?

now i want to ask wy couldnt you just take the projectors out fromo the old audi headlights and just mount them somehow into the 4th gen headlight housing? see i am a newbie when it comes to this and want to know everything so i wont have a problem when doign this to my max. what is the bezel and the shroud for?

It does not fit and requires you to pretty much custom fabricate an entire new headlight. If your gonna have the time, money and skills to do this then you could then mass produce them so all of the other 4th Gen owners could join the club. In other words, it's not realistic but you could give it a try if you feel up to the challenge.

Go to hidplanet.com and start reading up. I won't be making any write-ups myself as this mod has too many variables. However, I do remember another member here who already made one a few months ago in Power Point so you can search for that write-up. Good luck to you.

Hey, all i can say is it will look good! I just got done doing the same retrofit into my maxima except i didnt use a shroud which i wish i would have done.
I have an extra wireharness made by DohDoh ( he's on hidforum.com) customized for a maxima with bi-xenon wiring if you are interested in buying it. It's very high quality. If you are interested i'll let it go for $50 shipped.
I'm selling it because it took him 1 month to send me the harness so i just paid another member to make it for me. Let me know at cao.thang@gmail.com

I followed those powerpoints and it was very general. FYI do NOT bake your headlights at 400F like the powerpoint says. 260F should be sufficient.

Are those studs secured in the housings? Why do they stick so far out of the rear? Looks like you drilled a hole big enough for the hid socket and drilled holes for each long stud. I'm guessing you have to secure the studs with nuts/washers on the rear? Thanks

p00tan6: Thanks but I will not need the harness. Also, I personally bake my lights at 275° for 7 minutes.
Jeff92se: The stud lengths are temporary and will be trimmed once the light bracket is reassembled. They will be held in place from the back with washers and t-nuts. I had placed springs on the studs inside the headlight previously but determined that they will not be need for my projector adjustment/alignment.
Iron Scimitar: I got them for a fair price (look at above post) that included bulbs and ballests.
maximus_96: You are somewhat correct. The shroud/bezel must be cut out of the A6 headlight. Since they are at a angle, using them for my application is difficult. I may end up trimming them down later to give a nice chrome ring/trim to the plastic bezel.
Nismo3112: I do not have pictures of just the dryer duct but the pictures above show it areadly installed around the projector. If you are looking to purchase it then look for GE Flexible Dryer Duct (Model: PM8X73) at Home Depot. It should be around $9.00. I basically took it and removed the wiring from inside the duct so that I could mold it around the projector to create an exact fitment for the shroud. I then turned on the HID bulb for around 25 minutes to make sure that it could withstand the heat and found that it worked great. The shroud was only slightly warm after the 25 minutes and noted that it blocked 100% of the light so I have no light leakage. I may end up putting another shroud around it using rolled polished aluminum sheet medal to give it a more cosmetic appeal later.
HomerMAC: If I decide not to use them then I will let you know.
Anyways, you guys didn't note what paint scheme you would choose from my 2 choices. Care to comment or give any opinions on that?

In my setup I will totally black out housing to match my blacked out corners. I will also use angel eyes of 745i, unless other ideas come into head. But for your design, I would suggest AE mode. Also, I would suggest using superflux LEDs, which virtually have 360 degree viewing angle.

Some quick advice, that beam pattern is going to be very spread out how the projector is sitting in the headlight. You'll want to angle them a little more inwards to where the grill would be.
And that last photochop was terrible. Looks nothing like a black housing, Just looks like a reflector housing in bad lighting. Go somewhere else Gay boy.
