LEAK!!?? Near Sunroof switches

Well I was driving to work and all of a sudden a drop of water hits my arm. I noticed it was coming from the switches to the sunroof (where the light is). Anyone experience this? I have no clue what to do to get it fixed, please help!!

Is there snow on top your sunroof? I had this happen to me once when I left a good chunk of snow on top my car for a few days ... since then, I make sure I take off the snow within a day or so.

Oh, my bad .. you're in FL ... sorry, no snow there, I start by checking for cracks in the insulation.

The same thing happened to me. At first, it was only a few drops so I didn't pay much attention. But few days later, after a serious downpour, I noticed that both of my cupholders were full of water! So, I decided to remove the panel with the sunroof switches to wipe off the water and find the leek. To my amazement there were no clues of the source of the leek, everything was dry except for the panel which accumulated some water. After this strange incident I never experienced any leaks from that area and it has been over 4 months since. The only rational explanation that I can think of is that one of the rubber (sunroof) seals is aging (drying?) and it had a moment of weakness.

Anyway, the only thing I can recommend is to remove the panel and have someone spray water from the top of the vehicle and look if any water gets through the sunroof.

Check and see if the drain hose is properly connected:

2000 Maxima Sunroof Leak

I have recently had a similar problem with my 2000 Maxima. Today, when I was leaving work, I noticed the headliner was a bit damp where it meets the passenger side A-pillar. I suspect it is the leaking hose problem described and illustrated in this post, but I would like a little more information on how to remove the headliner before I screw something up. Anyone out there have the service manual or just the experience in removing the headliner?

If you open the sunroof, look towards the front of the car and fold down that metal flap thing, you will see inside the drain tray, look at the two holes on either side to see if some sort of debris is in there you can also use the small part of a coat hanger to see if there is an obstruction in the front tube, mine used to leak too until I found a piece of plastic clogging the driver side hole. That tray has a low tolerance of water collection, maybe like half an inch or less , any more than that it rains in the car. You may also notice that if you turn you car with water in the tray the unobstructed side will drain out, that's how you will know.

maxgtr2000 - Thanks for the quick reply. It seems that would make it back up into the car through the sunroof? As opposed to right by the A-pillar?

Just checked into the clogged hose... I took a little risky move and poured a little water into the right front of the tray. It drained out the bottom of the car like it's supposed to! Very strange, perhaps it was just a fluke? Maybe it is something to do with the seal and it is leaking by the sunroof and not coming through until it reaches the A-pillar? Where did your leak occur?

I have a leak on my sunroof. facin the car as u look from right to left the left side(passenger side) is tilting down and you can see that its uneven with the car!!!!!!!!!! At first i thought the water is comin down the side or something, but really its comin through there. On the inside of the sunroof i push it up and it doesnt stay up! somehow it just slides down. Is something wrong with the sunroof tray or what?

Any over flow will come down your a pillar depending on where you are parked if your car is tilted, but if the seal had a leak, water collects in that pan when enough builds up it rolls into the tubes. Unknown to me, one of the brackets holding my sun roof deflector broke. Ironically after that, that is when my leaks occurred. When I looked into the tray and then at the drain tubes, the piece that broke off the bracket was big enough to block the hole on one side, I took a coat hanger to free the piece to where i could reach it with my fingers and pull it out. No doubt it still leaks, but I don't care because it drains properly and haven't gotten a leak in the car since. You can also do good to test the seal for any holes by visually inspecting it real close to see if there is a hole or small gap, then just put some silicone to it. For example it could leak where the sunroof deflectors brackets are, there are small gaps at those 2 places.

Found it - Thanks

I have been living with a leaky roof for a while now. After getting dumped on again today I decided to try to do something about it. I looked at the drain hole and sure enough, there was a balled up gum wrapper stuck in the driver side drain hole. I just popped it out, dumped some water down there, and all seems well. More rain is on it's way. We will see how it works out. That was the easiest repair to date.
