this thread makes me wonder why the busdriver lady used to taste the gas from the gas tank with a stick before we went on long fieldtrips back in gradeschool.

my guess was his reserve tank was smaller than the norm, maybe its off a sentra or something, you never know when the cars are going through the assembly line if they run out of pieces so they sneak a piece out of a wrong pile. im thinking you have a sentra reserve tank ?

I can't believe how you guys are acting in responding to his question. This is a serious issue. He wants what Nissans promises. He want 18.5 gallons of gas. You guys are all immature and stupid for all your wrong answers and silly responses. The main reason you don't get 18.5 gallons of gas, is because you don't talk to the gas tank. Everyone who own a Nissan talks to their gas tank. DUH!! The dealorship didn't tell you that??

this is funny because at least ten times a day somebody posts a rethread. when someone actually creates a real thread you guys give him a hard time. i use my maxima for working out of and sometimes where i go there isnt a gas station in sight and i have almost run out before yet the most i ever put in my tank is like a little over 17gals so i often wonder why the owners manual says 18.5 myself.

if you want to jack someone off...do it to the newbie who asks "so which muffler should i get" or "what does an intake do" but when someone actually asks a legit question...post an answer...i think all you who make fun of the thred are the people who still are asking " whats the deal w/ this electric supercharger?"

I answered the question at the outset, larryseibel. The reason the gas tank doesn't hold 18.5 gallons is because it doesn't hold 18.5 gallons - it holds 17.7 with gas splashing down the side of the car. So far there has been no evidence come forth that the tank holds more than 17.7 gallons. I rest my case.

And by the way, get a life!

AMAZING!!! 50 posts (the most posts I have ever received on one of my threads) and it's all garbage! With the exception of "larrysiebel's" post. And to think that I go around bragging to my friends about how great the Maxima.org is with providing valuable information about our cars.

It's a shame that so many of you would waste my time and others who come on this Forum with idiot comments like the ones posted on this thread. This is something that I would expect from a forum like Mazdaworld.org which I have gone to before (I also own a Millenia) and could not believe the "child-like" mentality that those guys have there and yet I am now experiencing the same thing here.

A simple answer to my question would have sufficed and it would have saved a great deal of space on the server on which this forum is being maintained.

For all of those who made the "idiot" comments...it's time to grow up, learn to shave, and get some lessons on how to wipe your butts, unless of course you still have your mommy doing it for you.

Remember, less is more.

Then don't ask inane questions without providing more background, @@@hole! You never once stated how long your idiot light had been on or where your needle was on the guage. That's like filling up with the needle at 1/2 and asking why you can't put 18.5 gallons of gas in your car.

I responded in an intelligent manner and said the car won't hold 18.5 gallons. I went back and looked at some records I have and in fact I added 67.3 litres, not 67.0, so I put in 17.77 US gallons. I contend that is all the friggin tank will hold unless proven otherwise.

Its the same as the debate as to how much gas is left when the light comes on. I haven't seen anything definitive on this Board that puts this question to rest.

After answering the question, I participated in a little fun that some of the members were enjoying. Perhaps a little levity in your life might make you a more well-rounded person, maxsthebest, or maybe you're just going through a mid-life crisis, lol. I had one at your age and bought my Maxima! Maybe its time for you to move on.

Who cares????

You probably have a Watermelon in your gas tank.........

As longest you don't Leak any gas, who cares??????

Call Nissan and complain to them. I am sure they will do something about it... That's Nissan. You might win a Gas coupon.

Maxsthebest, I am sorry you are offended, everyone wants to have fun and tried to be lighthearted in the post and if I'm not mistaken I'm pretty sure you got your answer to an extent maybe you should ask Nissan techs to be sure, but if a manual says 18.5 and about 20 people on here say it only holds 17.7 who would you believe? If there was no info or fun on the org I wouldn't be here; no hard feelins man, lighten up.

If your life is so boring that you wonder why your car doesn't hold 18.5 gallons of gas, that's your problem.

Aside from that, we're a good-hearted fun bunch. If you want uptight knuckleheads or people who think they know it all, then stay on mazdaworld.

Also, Mazda Millenias suck. You can get a 99 Millenia for like 3500 in NY. The only people who still drive them are the hessays.

Moral of the story. If you want to be stupid. This is what will happen. And for being a bad sport, I will never help you again.

or maybe the fuel pump pickup doesnt completely pick up all the fuel in the tank therefore leaving .8 gallons of gas left floating that it cannot pick up and send the the pump to make our maximas go go go

In my case however, I filled the car beyond what I'm sure its intended to be filled. The spout was full to overflowing and I probably added about 1 litre more than I should have bringing the fillup more realistically to 17.50 US gallons on the nose. So now we're talking about 0.8 to 1.0 gallon if we really want to get **** about it.

Alright. For those of you who provided a "logical" answer, Thank You. For those that had too much time on their hands...

Let's get back to answering intelligently...we benefit more this way.

P.S. My Mazda Millenia belongs to my wife - she chose the vehicle. Thus far, the car has been incredibly reliable - - kinda like our Maximas.

The tank does hold 18.5 gal. If you really did pump 17 gal I see you are willing to assume risk, with no reward, because we all know the gauge is unable to show you how much is truly left at that point so you are coming within 30 miles or so of running out of gas. If that were to happen, you'd be one of less than 0.0000001% of Maximas which that has happened to, and at least in New York State you must register your name and DNA with local law enforcement and probably face losing your job and banishment from your community.

Besides, why make the fuel pump work that hard unnecessarily? Refilling the tank sooner is cheaper than a new pump and relay.

The problem is it makes sense and common sense is something thats not used as much as it should be nowadays.

In all seriousness, the pickup won't get every drop of gas in the tank simply because of the way it is positioned. There could probably be 1/4 - 1/2" of gas in the bottom of the tank, spanning the entire tank (the bottom of the tank is probably 4 or 5 square feet). That accounts for most of the difference, also there would be a little gas left in the return and feed lines. There's your discrepancy.

gas is gas, but a Mazda Millenia, especially the "S" model...is a pretty nice car...2.3L V6 supercharged...not really fast, but fun to drive. Reliability isnt so bad, but it's no Maxima..

Am I the only one wondering if there are people really confused about this? I have a weird feeling, some poor SPED is reading this thread and is researching if 93 gas is really fatter than 87.

Take out the tank, empty it out completely, wash it clean it get the junk off the bottom, then tow ur car to a gas station, refill it and see if it gets 18gallons, then come back and post and tell us how it went.

This is how I look at this, with gas prices going up and up since new years, it would be a blessing for me if the tank takes less fuel to fill up. That would be less $$$ spent on gas. Mine usually fill up at 16.5 but I usually don't drive my car and not refuel til the fuel light goes on.

Oh and don't worry about a thread like this wasting server space, with a wave of a magic wand a moderator can delete this thread just like that. Your stupid question will never leave a trace anywhere in here.

**EDIT**

this tread is worthless! the question isn't logically answered until post 68! what the heck? a couple funny and sarcastic posts are fine and i'm sure other people enjoy them, but there were probably about 10 jokes alone on why gas is fat or something like that. wow
