Bose LED Read-Out.....Blacked Out!

I have a 1995 GLE, and the Bose System's grean LED display basically is out. About once or twice a year, the LED will start working for about, but as soon as I shut the engine off and restart, it's back to being gone(LED display). Apparently the CD unit isn't working very well either(according to my wife).

I got a quote from a repair outfit in San Jose, California, where I live that works on Bose car systems, and will remove, repair and re-install my unit in one day for $165.00. This cost includes repairing all Bose functions, such as CD too.

First of all, is this a common problem with these units, and secondly, if it is, is this a pretty good deal. They would cover they're work for one year.

That Bose repair place said that the Bose Unit that Nissan used in those 1995 GLE's were very good, high quality, and expensive units. The owner said that the unit would have been worth about $1,500.00 on the market.

Either he is lying, and/or that is the reason why everyone buys aftermarket headunits (because they are better and cheaper).

Yes this is a very common problem. Mine did the exact same thing for about a year. I ended up going out and getting an Alpine 7897 deck. I like it 100 times better than the bose. but if you like the bose, stay with it. It's still a great sound system. $165 isnt bad compared to 400 for a quality new deck

btw - this is more of a topic for the audio and electronics forum...

I apologize for submitting this in the wrong forum. I'm new here, and didn't realize that there were other forum-themes to submit threads of varied Maxima topics. Maybe the administrator can transfer my thread and the responses over to the Audio topics area?

You can buy a used working one on ebay for about $150 US. If you buy a new one from the Nissan dealer, I've been quoted up to $1,7XX for a new HU on my 3rd gen so I would imagine the 4th gen ones would be just as much.

Best thing to do is replace Bose, don't try and repair it is just not worth it, and you can get it to sound much better then the bose system that was in it w/o a problem. Bose paper cone speakers make me cry.
