KYB AGX users!

I know that everyone says "get illuminas" please dont post that in here, my point of this thread is to see what problems AGX users have run into with their struts. I know they have kind of a harsher ride in the winter, but anything else? any blowing out? im trying to see if there is a trend or anything.

thanks in advance

i love mine , no problems to report other than i also bought the kyb dust boots and they are already torn and beat up. so i would say the dust boots are cheap and inferior, lol !

Mileage: 31,000 on the kyb agx's and going strong !

the advantage is you can adjust both front and rear settings to be firm for superior handling, or you can set them soft like stock. best of both worlds.
i say its a performance oriented shock and not a luxury sedan type thing

I have close to 40,000 KM (plus another 15,000 miles from the previous owner) on my AGX and I love them. Pretty harsh during really cold winter mornings, but nothing that I cannot live with. When they blow out I will probably get another used set.

I've extensively driven 4th gens with both the AGX and the Illuminas. I still chose the AGX/Tein combo. There isn't much of a difference IMO.

I'm still using AGX's in the front and they're still in good condition. The rears blew within 2 months.

There's a BIG difference in ride quality between the AGX's and Illuminas. The Illuminas aren't as harsh as AGX's. I'm running Illuminas in the rear and the difference is like night and day.

I'm running AGXs with the H&Rs and it can be quite harsh in the winter, but its do able. They ride quite nice in the summer so no issues here

I have had my AGX's now for almost 70k. No problems reported ever. Yup, they're a bit stiff, but I dont mind. I dont like hitting potholes, but then again, I try to avoid them in my other max with stock struts.

I wouldn't buy used shocks at all.. it's safety issue, like buying used seat belts.

I've had AGX for 20k miles and I'm very pleased with them. As everyone said, they're harsh in the cold no matter what setting you put them on, but that's the only real downfall. Lifetime warrantee, they are strong as ever for me, and have lasted through a low drop (Sprints) and now my Teins. I would gladly buy them again, just because I'm sick of everyone saying buy Illuminas but to be fair I've never ridden in a car with Illuminas so much judgement is biased.

I bought mine with about 10k miles on them for $150, no problems. But, I bought them locally from a friend, so I knew what I was getting.

Lay on ground, reach behind wheel.

What's so hard about that?

It's harder to get to the illumina top-mounted ***** and Konis must be removed from the car to be adjusted.

Overall, the AGXs are cake.

both of these statements are very true. I bought used AGX"S with 10,000 miles on them. just depends on what condition they are in and whatthey look like for me.

I don't think AGX validates the warranty to anyone but the original owner. I wouldn't buy used ones unless local.

I've had mine for 9K and they are very nice and easily adjustable. They are stiff on chilly mornings and a bit stiff overall. In a while I'm going to FLT A2's.

Nick.

even if we can only get about 20K out of the strut thats a long time and with a lifetime warantee, wouldnt be a bad thing to replace and out your suspension every 20K make sure all is good.

maybe just in chicago those struts arent good for you

I love my AGX. Best mod ive done to the car yet! outside from my RSB that i HAVENT gotten yet lol

As for what i have heard, i heard tha the AGX are much more durable than the tokikos. As for them blowing within 20k miles.. thats BS unless they cut stock springs like idiots.

I have ground controls dropped about 2 inches or less all around, and i have them on the stiffest setting all the way around. Yeap its a stiff ride, but i LOVE the handling.

I would buy em again with the quickness.. if i were to get anything different it would either be koni or full coilovers for me..

I second that! Depending on which springs you're planning to use will determine how rough the ride is, I'm running AGXs w/ Eibach springs & it is a pretty rough ride but the handling improvment is much worth the rough ride, for me @ least!
