squeaking problem

Here is the problem – about three weeks ago I started hearing squeaking coming from what appeared to be the steering column. You would expect the squeak to be consistent, but it is not. Sometimes during a turn sometimes just after a turn. I have turned the steering wheel side to side and nothing. Any help is appreciated. This is driving me crazy. Thanks for the help.

Just an idea, but inspect the steering rack mount bushings. It's not too easy without a lift, maybe have a mechanic do it the next time it's in the shop. Unfortunately, one is covered by a heat shield that can't be removed until the y-pipe is off.
