smoke coming from foglights
well i just got finished wiring in some aftermarket fogs. I took it for a spin and saw that they need to be aimed up. I get out of the car and see it smoking. Where could this be originating from? Are $20 fogs this cheap that the housing can't handle a 55w bulb? i just spent 1.5 hours taking everything apart and now theres smoke comin out. Is there anything down near the foglight hole area that could heat up a lot?

if they're cheapo fogs the housing could be smoking, or your wiring (or harnesses) depending on what they recomend using. i'd lay under your car and check it all out in the daytime and see if you see signs of melting from the fog light housing and check the wiring out. goodluck and let us know what you find

it all depends on the fogs. Some fogs have to sort of "wear in" like shoes. It's like a brake in period. It's perfectly fine though. As long as the fog continues to light up, it's ok.
BTW, I've seen this smoke on many occasions even in my stock fogs. I had a stock 55w bulb in there and when it got really cold out, you could see that smoke. I still see it at times. I've been driving like this for a year now. I took my fogs out a few times since and nothing has melted.

guess ill be checking tomororw during daylight. man tonight was the night i was going ot finish the led's in my interior but that smoke freaked me out. that whole wear-in seems about right though. maybe a film of something from the factory inside the housing.
